Our favorite walks in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche

In Limousin, nature dominates🌳! We love strolling along the hiking trails🥾, discovering unusual places. In and around Saint-Yrieix La Perche, there’s no shortage of walks: Lac d’Arfeuille in Saint-Yrieix, Lande de Saint-Laurent in La Roche l’Abeille, remarkable gardens🌼, the medieval towns of Ségur le Château and Saint-Yrieix…. We invite you to follow us as we discover our favorite 💚coeurs💚 arédiens!
A quick of a view

1. The medieval city of Saint-Yrieix

Plus Beaux Détours de France

For a stroll through the heart of Saint-Yrieix, ask at the Tourist Office for a tour of the medieval town: Collégiale, Tour du Plô, rue du marché, le chemin en andalou and its magnificent viewpoint … enjoy this stroll through the streets and return to our favorite stores and why not take the opportunity to come to the Saturday morning farmers’ market.

2. LAC D'ARFEUILLE

Stroll along the water's edge

Just outside the town of Saint-Yrieix, the walk around Lac d’Arfeuille is a favorite with families, sports enthusiasts and local residents alike! A new feature is the footbridge that takes you out onto the peninsula. For fishing enthusiasts, the catch is always good!

Continue your walk on the nearby 8-kilometer hiking trail.

3. LA LANDE DE SAINT-LAURENT

La Roche l'Abeille: exceptional moorland

La Roche l’Abeille is best known for its famous battle in 1569 with King Henri de Navarre, better known as Henri IV! But nature here is exceptional: on the Saint-Laurent moorland trail, serpentine outcrops, a rock that emerged from the oceans 300 million years ago. Its characteristics give the flora here a remarkable interest.

4. Ségur le Château

Most Beautiful Villages in France

This picturesque medieval town, listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages, lies on the banks of the Auvézère River and is dominated by the imposing remains of its castle. Things to do: village discovery trail (historical interpretation panels); 3 hiking trails, one of which leads to the Lasveyras bridge (a place of Resistance and Remembrance) and the PDIPR-listed sentier des deux collines. And for the kids, you can go on a hunt for the little “plaizentins”!

5. THE KAOLIN LOOP

Coussac-Bonneval

Coussac Bonneval is famous for its Château de Bonneval, and we recommend a guided tour of this magnificent family home.

For a hike before or after your visit, take a stroll along the kaolin trail: the kaolin loop takes you through the old kaolin quarries, lanes of chestnut trees, and along the banks of the La Valentine stream… the trail’s plus point: it’s shaded! and you can picnic by the Etang de la Marche.

6.THE UPPER ISLE VALLEY

Country destination: La Meyze

Destination countryside: in the Haute Vallée de l’Isle, the charming village of La Meyze is a green haven between Limoges and Saint-Yrieix.
In the heart of the village, you’ll find a church founded in Carolingian times, whose patron saint is Saint Michel. The church houses a listed 17th-century gilded polychrome wooden statue of Saint Roch and his dog.
Two chapels at Notre Dame du Rocher and in the hamlet of Champsiaux complete this heritage.
Farming is mainly focused on the breeding of Limousine beef cattle and black-bottomed pigs, so why not pay a visit to one of our “Chez Dufour” breeders?
Note that the farms and houses in the village are given a special touch by our enthusiastic flower growers.
