Description
Situated between the Dordogne and Corrèze rivers, at the gateway to the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, Saint-Yrieix is a medieval town founded in the 6th century by Arédius. Its geological riches, such as gold mines and leptynite, are at the root of its development. In Haute-Vienne, the renown of kaolin, discovered in 1768 by Jean-Baptiste Darnet, strengthens the town's heritage. His house is home to the Museum of Art and History (MAH). This 700 m² museum offers a semi-permanent tour renewed every 2 years, illustrating four periods of prosperity (Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the 18th and 20th centuries) through historical collections and immersive content. The Micro-Folie, a digital complement, offers access to more than 5,000 masterpieces in a variety of formats, enabling visitors to explore the museum in a fun and collective way. Just 40 minutes from Limoges.
