At a glance

1. The circuit of bell towers and ponds & the marzipan of Saint Léonard

à Saint-Léonard de Noblat
  • Distance: 14.8 km, duration: 3h45, altitude difference: 415 m ~ on foot or mountain bike.

Fans of gourmet walks? Head for Saint-Léonard de Noblat, one of Plus Beaux Détours de France! Enjoy a hike to discover the mills, small villages and streams of its countryside. With plenty of viewpoints over the medieval town and its collegiate church, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of France’s pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. ⛪

And after the effort, the comfort! Head to the village of Saint-Léonard de Noblat to discover a gourmet speciality: marzipan! Made from almonds, egg white and sugar, this soft biscuit was given to pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. You can try it in several of the city’s patisseries. 🥧

2. The Porcelain Loop & Trépaïs

in Limoges
  • Distance: 9.3 km, duration: 2h20, difference in altitude: 108 m ~ on foot or mountain bike

Gourmet walks also take on an urban air at Limousin. This 9km loop in the heart of Limoges invites you to follow the banks of the Vienne. Cross ancient bridges, green parks and historic districts, in a calm and relaxing environment at the foot of the cathedral. An ideal walk to discover the porcelain capital in a different way. ✨

After your stroll, make a gourmet stop to try Trépaïs, a typical cake from Limousin à la châtaigne (click on the + for Limousin addresses). This soft, triangular dessert, devised by the region’s pastry chefs, pays tribute to this emblematic fruit from Limousin by combining it with chocolate and hazelnuts… a treat! 😋

3. The Pierres Blanches trail & the Dorat macaroon

in Le Dorat
  • Distance: 21 km, duration: 5h30, altitude difference: 54 m ~ on foot, mountain bike or horseback

Our third suggestion for gourmet walks is a circuit starting from Le Dorat, one of the Haute-Vienne’s Petites Cités de Caractère and the historic capital of the Basse Marche. This beautiful walk takes you to the heart of the majestic Monts de Blond. ✨

Before your hike, don’t forget to stop off at Délice Gourmand, to discover the town’s sweet speciality, the macaron du Dorat. Crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth, it’ll make a well-deserved snack on the way. 😋

4. The Rochette trail & Saint Yrieix madeleines

at Saint-Yrieix la Perche
  • Distance: 7 km, duration: 2 hours ~ on foot, mountain bike or horseback.

In the heart of kaolin country, this easy walk takes you around Lake Arfeuille, past small villages, peaceful meadows and Limousin cows. The trail passes the hermitage cave of Saint Arédius, founder of Saint-Yrieix la Perche, before returning to the swimming lake and its outdoor leisure facilities.

After the effort, head for the picturesque historic centre to savour the famous madeleine from Saint-Yrieix, a small, soft, shell-shaped cake that local craftsmen now make in delicious flavoured versions.
