1. The island of Vassivière

Discover the works of art at the Bois de Sculptures, the Centre international d’art et du paysage, and the Jardin des Simples. In season, the store sells local produce, the baker offers delicious delicacies baked in the château’s old bread oven, and the café-restaurant Pré du Lac invites you to enjoy a drink on the terrace with a breathtaking view, or to savour dishes based on local Limousin produce. A tempting program, isn’t it?
2. The Poets' Way
5 km round trip - 1h15 - EasyFrom the heights of Lac de Vassivière, set off on a 5 km round-trip walk along the Bois de Crozat, where you’ll discover rare tree species and sculptures accompanied by poems engraved in granite. From the orientation table, enjoy a 360° panorama. Below, admire the Roches Brunagères, slabs of rock with sarcophagus-shaped cavities, considered to be Druidic monuments. Don’t miss the two tumuli dating from the 1st century: the Quenouille tumulus and the Puy la Besse tumulus, the latter offering a superb viewpoint at 775 m altitude.

The Sentier des poètes (Poets’ Trail) is available in a longer and shorter version, “Autour du bois de Crozat”. Consult the topo sheet and opt for the 15km or 8km if you’re only doing the first loop!
3. The Nergout circuit
5 km - 1h10 - EasyDiscover a pleasant walk, which takes you through enchanting landscapes while offering many breathtaking views of the Lac de Vassivière. As you climb to the top, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the panoramic views! Take a moment to appreciate the panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. Then, gently, begin your descent to the lake. The path takes you along the shores, where you can enjoy the serenity of the sparkling waters and listen to the gentle murmur of nature.
4. The riverbank path
26.1 km - 7h - MediumSet off on a 26.1 km walk that winds along the magnificent shores of Lake Vassivière. This unique route, in the heart of the Limousin, will take you across stilted walkways, a floating pontoon and a flush dike, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to explore secluded coves, as well as lively beaches that invite you to take a refreshing break, ideal for enjoying nature. You can choose to walk the entire route or explore it in sections, depending on your mood at the time.

Discover the Roches Brunagères on the heights of Lake Vassivière. These legendary stones are located on an exceptional site, with a panoramic view over the three départements of the Limousin. Long considered a Druidic monument. On 2 huge rocks, separated by a deep cavern, rests an immense stone forming a table on which are inlaid 5 large sarcophagi depicting heads and shoulders.
