1. "I don't want to see a plate!"
Adrien Dubouché Museum, LimogesJust the thing, because at the Musée Adrien Dubouché, it’s not all about the arts of the table: you can choose from a dozen themed tours with the “MNAD Limoges” app.
“I don’t want to see a plate”, “Unmissable works”, “Contemporary art”, “The journey”, “The artists”, and so on. To each his or her own, a selection of the 5,000 works on display!
Want to get off the phone? With the family tour, a mysterious sketchbook will be just as much fun with children aged 7 and over.
Or there’s simply the traditional discovery tour: with a circular route, there’s no chance of going round in circles! From the stages of porcelain manufacture, to the history of ceramics from Antiquity to the present day, the richest collection of Limoges porcelain in the world awaits you.
We like: the “Works in 3D” tour to virtually manipulate the museum’s objects 😉
2. The quest to master fire
Casseaux kiln museum in LimogesWould you like to learn more about the human adventure of the porcelain industry?
Listed as a historic monument, this is the only round “reverse flame” kiln still standing in France, and THE place to learn about the technical and artistic history of porcelain.
What’s at stake? The mastery of fire!
10,000 to 15,000 pieces per firing, a week for each batch. The ingenuity of man, the difficulties of successive firing processes… The visit will help you imagine the technical prowess of the period and its social history: a true human symbol.
Take advantage of the Museum’s ideal location to buy a porcelain souvenir in the store, visit the factory next door or take a stroll along the banks of the Vienne 😉

3. Get your hands dirty!
Le Moulin du Got in St Léonard de NoblatWe don’t come here for the flour, but we do make pulp… for paper!
A 15th-century paper mill, the Moulin du Got will teach you all about sheets of paper, from how it’s made by hand to the first continuous paper machine. You’ll be asked to take part in the guided tour, but the apron is optional 😉
After the blank sheet, the printing press!
Gutenberg, typesetting and linotype will hold no secrets for you. The museum is a place for demonstrations and production: a hands-on experience for active, exciting visits.
What we love about the Moulin du Got is that it’s also a creative space open to artists.
Don’t forget to sign up for a graphic arts workshop – there’s something for young and old alike.
4. Mémoire des combattants de la Haute-Vienne
Museum of the ResistanceThe Limousin is known as a land of strong and active Resistance during the Second World War.
The Musée de la Résistance et de l’Occupation (Museum of Resistance and Occupation), located in the heart of the town, boasts a wealth of objects (including a plane!) and documents dating from the 1939-1945 period. Dedicated to the men and women who sacrificed their lives to defend the values of the Republic, it is an essential place of remembrance.
For a family visit, we recommend a minimum age of 8, due to the difficult subject matter.
With the free “Résistance en Poche” app, 8-13 year-olds (and their parents😉 ) will have virtual comrades from the era to help them understand the events from 1933 to the end of the War, and win medals!

5. Enamel, the beautiful one!
Musée des Beaux Arts de LimogesA majestic building in the heart of the historic Cité district, with the gardens of the Évêché overlooking the Vienne valley… It’s off to a great start! And it’s just as beautiful inside.
From paintings by Renoir or Suzanne Valadon to Egyptian antiquities that are universally admired, it’s the enamel collection that has made the Musée internationally famous! The arts of fire, enamel… It’s impossible to get to know Haute-Vienne without visiting this former Bishop’s Palace.
What we love about the Musée des Beaux Arts is the itineraries on offer: with “l’humeur du baladin”, there’s a visit for every mood! Themed leaflets can be picked up at reception (top-notch!) or downloaded, and take you through a selection of works chosen according to a theme or your mood of the day – original, isn’t it?
So, will you be more of a “blue flower” or a “stickler for detail”, or will you want to “fill your head with stars” or “take the freedom to laugh”?
It’s up to you to choose from 10 different itineraries and take advantage of them to visit the museum again and again. The collections are so varied that you’ll love going there, strolling through the gardens or along the banks of the Vienne, then coming back, before strolling through the narrow streets of the Cité.
