Médiathèque Jean-Pierre Fabrègue, 16 avenue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, 87500 Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche
This manuscript, the first artist's book from Saint-Yrieix, was produced in the early 12th century by Pierre Del Casta (a canon from Périgord) for the chapter of the monks of Saint-Yrieix. Listed as a historic monument in 1988, this remarkable bible is considered by many specialists to be "the finest Romanesque manuscript preserved in Limousin", thanks to the quality of its illuminations. It weighs 23 kilos and comprises 376 large parchment leaves in calfskin, goatskin and sheepskin.
It is on display in the media library. It can also be consulted in digital format at: http://bibliotheque-mediatheque.saint-yrieix.fr
