MAURICE ROCHER 1918-1995, paintings A tormented man, he painted impulsively (reminiscent of Soutine). Slightly older than Bacon, he is often compared to him in his style and themes, with Scenes and Notables mocking the great and the good of this world. A colorist painter, he applied his colors to plain backgrounds, using a vigorous, violent paste, which prevented him from gaining institutional recognition in a country where expressionism was very rare. Le Vieux-Château will be exhibiting some of his periods: exalted Couples, faltering Churches, arrogant Notables, moving Suppliés and small, almost abstract Faces with gentle harmonies.
