Our unusual Limousin scenery

The Limousin and the Haute-Vienne are full of unusual scenery, some of it well-known, some of it secret… We’ve put together a selection of these settings for you to discover along the way, during a visit… Between wonder and change of scenery, discover the unusual Haute-Vienne…
A quick of a view

1. A Buddhist temple

in Rancon

We’re not in Thailand or Cambodia, yet a Buddhist temple stands majestically in the heart of the Haute-Vienne. The Tung-Lam Linh-Son International Buddhist Retreat and Study Center has been based in Rancon since 1986.

2. Un air de Montana

at Château Chervix

Open Range is a Quarter Horse training and breeding center reminiscent of the ranches of the United States. Created out of a love of horses and nature, it’s also a lifestyle in a rare setting. For a weekend, a training course or an extended stay, you can stay in one of our authentic cottages.

3. The little Canada of Limousin

Lake Vassivière

In the heart of Limousin, we have our own little Canada! Lac de Vassivière surprises and amazes with landscapes reminiscent of North America. The lake, its forests, its colors, the change of scenery is guaranteed! It’s an ideal location for a whole host of activities: hiking and mountain biking, horseback riding, water sports, Terra Aventura, accrobranche, escape games, sightseeing, etc.

4. Le facteur Cheval du Limousin

The Initiatory Stones

An atypical artist, Jean-Marie de Saint-Nicolas invites you to discover his park of 140 granite sculptures (animals, characters…) and various architectural works, as well as an exhibition room of paintings depicting the most beautiful sites in Limousin and the rural work of yesteryear.

5. A Statue of Liberty

in Châteauneuf la Forêt

The Châteauneuf-la-Forêt war memorial is a replica of the Statue of Liberty illuminating New York harbour. It serves as a reminder of the heavy toll paid by rural communities during the First and Second World Wars.

6. The 7th Company

from Limoges to Eymoutiers

The steam locomotive 140 C 38, built in 1919, was used in the film “On a retrouvé la 7ème compagnie”, where the cult line “Touche pas à ça p’tit con” was filmed running inside the driver’s cab. This is the train that powers the tourist trains run every summer by the CFTLP association (Conservatoire Ferroviaire Territoires Limousin Périgord).

7. The trail of legendary stones

in Compreignac

Whenever you take it, the magic is always there. Some corners seem enchanted, especially around the Fadas rock, the Turtle rock or the Monkey head… So many places, so many legends…
