Who loves a picnic? And who likes hiking? Everyone! 😁 So we’ve come up with the idea ofcombining these two pleasures by offering you a selection of our best hikes where you can picnic 🥪

These Limousin walks will help you discover the unspoilt nature of our gentle region, with a picnic area to boot! 💚 There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a long-distance hiker or a Sunday walker 🥾

We’ll take you on walks ranging from 1.5 km to 26 km along the paths of the Haute-Vienne… With delicious local produce from Limousin in your rucksack, of course 😉

1. The Lords' Way

8.8 km ~ 2h15

📍à Bessines sur Gartempe, in the land of Suzanne Valadon

Why not start with a walk in the land where Suzanne Valadon was born? Born in the Monts du Limousin, the painter had a brilliant career in Montmartre alongside Renoir, Degas… Stop off at the Valadon museum before putting on your hiking boots! 🎨

This peaceful walk will take you past heather moorland, stone paths, small hamlets typical of the Limousin and the peaceful banks of the Etang de Sagnat, where a picnic area will be waiting for you for your lunch break.🏵️

One of the most beautiful legendary stones in the Limousin is just a stone’s throw from the circuit: the Pierre Belle, an impressive 25-tonne basin carved out of granite! 😮

2. Musical path

📍à Pageas, on the Richard the Lionhearted Trail

The musical trail at Pageas makes our hearts beat! And in cadence, if you please. It’s an unusual walk to discover in Limousin. This educational trail passes through an arboretum of around fifty trees used in violin making… 🥁

We love wandering through this wooded estate, accompanied by the little musicians that are the birds of Limousin. An inspiring place where every step resonates in harmony with nature and music! 🐦

Picnic tables and benches then invite us to take a gourmet break while enjoying the sounds of nature. 🌿

3. Tour du Lac de Saint-Pardoux

24 km ~ 6 h

📍au Lac de Saint-Pardoux, 330 hectares of pure bliss!

Fancy a day immersed in the nature of the Limousin? We’ll take you on a tour of the Lac de Saint-Pardoux! It’s the perfect itinerary for lovers of the great outdoors! 😍

This walk takes in the lake’s three sites – Santrop, Chabannes and Fréaudour – all of which offer picnic areas where you can enjoy a gourmet break against the enchanting backdrop of the countryside. 🍒

All along the trail, the panoramas change, alternating between banks and forests, for a varied and rejuvenating route, lulled by the serenity of the lake. 💦

4. Chemin des Moulins

8 km ~ 2 h

📍 à Bellac, Village étape® at the gateway to the Monts de Blond

A picnic hike is all the more fun when it’s along the rivers of the Limousin! So head to the north of the Haute-Vienne to Bellac, a small town full of character that was the birthplace of Jean Giraudoux. 🪶

On this family walk, wander along the Vincou and its many mills, enjoying the charms of the medieval town and the panoramic views of the Monts de Blond. 🌳

For a snack break, the peaceful Aimé Vallat park is the place to be. Situated on the banks of the Vincou, the picnic area offers a lovely view and games for children. Your little ones will love it! 🛝

5. Riverside path of the Lac de Vassivière

26 km ~ 7 h

📍 at Beaumont-du-Lac, on the shores of Lake Vassivière.

Fancy a life-size picnic? Head for the Lac de Vassivière! This walk will take you on an undulating route between woods, heather moorland and the shores of the lake. 🌺

Carried away by the bubble of oxygen and serenity offered by the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches, you won’t see the miles go by 😉 …before putting your rucksack down on one of the picnic areas facing one of France’s largest lakes. 💧

With this loop, we promise you a day of discovery and a change of scenery, where picnics and hiking go hand in hand to make the most of the nature of the Limousin! 💚

6. The Feutrières trail

6.3 km ~ 1h30

Saint-Junien, the city of leather and glove-making

This Limousin walk will delight you if you’re a lover of art, nature and heritage. It takes you to the heart of the Glane valley, where the play of light and shadow inspired the famous 19th-century painter Camille Corot. ?‍🧑‍🎨

The Corot site, the emblematic stage of this walk, invites you to contemplate the landscapes that captivated the artist. This walk is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature while exploring a place steeped in poetry and history. 🌟

The equipped picnic area allows you to take a gourmet break while enjoying this enchanting setting. 🍃

👀 Experienced geocachers will prefer to do this walk with the Tèrra Aventura app.

7. The forges and mills trail

17.5 km ~ 4h30

📍 in Meuzac, on the edge of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin

Immerse yourself in the charm of the Limousin, with this walk that combines nature, heritage and relaxation. This route takes you through typical villages, sunken lanes lined with dry stone and magnificent bocage and forest landscapes. 🥾

Along the way, the Maison du Père Castor offers exhibitions and storytelling activities, ideal for a family cultural break. 🧒

This walk will also take you past the fortified Romanesque church and several picturesque ponds, including La Roche, perfect for a swim. 🏊‍♀️

With its waterside picnic area, the trail is ideal for a gourmet break in the heart of nature. 💚

8. Circuit of the Presipality of Grosland

13 km ~ 3h15

📍 in Champnétery, at the gateway to the Limousin mountains

Take a deep breath offresh air from the Limousin as you discover the countryside between Limoges and the Lac de Vassivière. 🌳

This trail crosses a variety of landscapes, from meadows and undergrowth to streams, with a refreshing stop by the Grosland pond. At the end of the walk, enjoy the picnic area for a well-deserved gourmet break in the fresh air. 🥬

Note that there are 4.5km and 7.5km variants for a shorter getaway, and a 17km one for the more hardy. Looking for more thrills? Try your hand at tarmac pumptrack and mountain bike descents! 🚵
