La Lande de la Haute-Renaudie

The shepherdess trail

Bussière-Galant

3.2 km – 1 hour approx. – Easy

Is your vacation rental close to Bussière-Galant? Then don’t miss out on the charming sentier des bergères 🐑, between moors and forests! With a length of 3.2 km, you can cover it in an hour; a little more if you want to take the time to contemplate the natural riches on offer. Also known as lande de la Haute-Renaudie, this protected natural environment is made up of moorland and thickets, and is on the CEN – Limousin list of remarkable natural sites. It is crossed by a small local road which divides the moor in two. To the east of this road, it is invaded by Bourdaine and Fougère-aigle thickets, as well as a few Callunes. To the west, it is better preserved, despite the encroaching trees. The site is of great interest to both flora and fauna. The start of this signposted trail is in the hamlet of Les Borderies, with a small parking lot and a signpost. 🌿

⚠️ Be sure to use the footbridges to avoid damaging this exceptional environment.

Between forests and hills

The Moulichou circuit

Châlus

11 km* – 2 hours 45 minutes – Medium difficulty

📍 Leaving from the center of Châlus, Place Cardailhac, the Moulichou trail offers a pleasant stroll between pretty spots of nature, small heritage and charming old stones. With a length of 11 km, it takes 2 hours 45 minutes to complete. On a warm spring or summer’s day, it’s the ideal path to enjoy the shade of the lanes and ponds. To start, take rue du Chêne Vert in the direction of Mazaubrun, then plunge into the forest along the path on your right. From there, let the sun’s rays guide you… and the signs!

Walk past the mottes castrales of Mazaubrun, discover charming little villages such as Chareilles and Négrier; cross the old railway tracks; take a cool break by the “Rompu” pond and its waterfall; then resume the walk towards the Moulin du Lac, the Fontaine de Gouhaut and finally the Voie Verte. A welcome breath of fresh air!

*We’re making a teeny-weeny exception for this walk, which is actually 11 km long, and not “less than 10 km” as our selection calls for. But it’s for a good cause, because it’s really worth it!

Nature and biodiversity

Vallon des Granges Park

in Châlus

🌳 For this ride, we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves. 🤫 It’s all new, it’s going to be a beautiful park!!! It’s undergoing some fine-tuning and will welcome you this autumn.

2 km – 1 hour approx. – Easy

Located in Châlus, on the N21 between Limoges and Périgueux, this is a welcome break on the road to your vacation destination. This rural park will be a place of conviviality accessible to all (games, walks, fitness trail, picnic break…) but also a privileged place for observing nature and biodiversity. 🌿 The variety of wetlands at the bottom of the valley is conducive to a high level of biodiversity: there is already a flora associated with rush marshes, cardamom meadows, flowering undergrowth and wet forests forming habitats favorable to amphibians, birds, insects and mammals.💧 The ponds are ecosystems in their own right, and willows are beginning to form a riparian zone along the watercourse. A veritable biodiversity reserve and an educational tool for learning more about wetland flora. Put a cross in your diary and come and discover it this autumn!
