La Lande de la Haute-Renaudie

1. The shepherdess trail

Bussière-Galant ~ 3.2 km - 1h approximately - Easy

Ideal for a family outing, the Bergères trail 🐑 at Bussière-Galant (12 km from the town of Châlus) crosses the Haute-Renaudie moorland, classified as a remarkable natural site in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

Eagle ferns, callune heather and birds punctuate this hour’s walk between fragrant moorland and woodland. 🐦

A small car park awaits you at the start, in the hamlet of Borderies, to set off and discover this haven of biodiversity. 🌿

⚠️ Be sure to use the footbridges to avoid damaging this exceptional environment!

Between forests and hillsides

2. The Moulichou circuit

Châlus ~ 11 km - 2h45 - Difficulty Medium

📍 This walk in Châlus alternates between shady sunken paths, sparkling ponds and discovering the small heritage of the Limousin.

Perfect for a warm spring or summer day, it starts from the town centre: follow the Rue du Chêne Vert, then a path that goes deep into the forest. The light filters through the trees and guides your steps, as does the signposting. 🥾

You will cross mottes castrales, old railway lines and picturesque hamlets, before stopping at the “Rompu” pond. The murmur of the Moulin du Lac and the coolness of the Fontaine de Gouhaut will finally lead you to the Voie Verte. 💚

3. The Hauts de Tardoire Green Route

from Châlus ~ 13 km one way, 28 km round trip - Easy

There’s no engine noise here, just birdsong and the screech of wheels or footsteps. 🚶🏽‍♂️🚲

The Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire, laid out on a former railway line, winds its way through miles of unspoilt countryside. Perfect for a short family walk, it is also ideal for a gentle 28km return cycle ride. 🌸

In short, we’d recommend it with our eyes shut if you’re looking for walks or cycle rides in Châlus! 👌

Nature and biodiversity

4. Vallon des Granges Park

in Châlus ~ 2 km - 1h approximately - Easy

A new park to delight young and old alike!

Located in Châlus, on the N21 between Limoges and Périgueux, this rural park will open in autumn 2024 and is an ideal stop-off point on the way to your holidays. Accessible to all, it offers games for children, walks, a fitness trail, picnic areas… 🌿

A veritable haven for biodiversity, it is home to marshes, meadows, flowering undergrowth and wet forests, precious habitats for amphibians, birds and insects. Its pools and emerging riparian vegetation also make it a great place to learn about the flora of wetlands.💧

5. Le Grand Puyconnieux

Dournazac ~ 6.1 km - 1h30 approx. - Medium difficulty

Fancy a hike in Châlus with some great views? Head for Dournazac, just 5km from Châlus. The Grand Puyconnieux site, the highest point in the south-western Haute-Vienne (498 metres), is ideal for breathing in the pure air of the région Limousin 🌬️.

Its unobstructed summit offers sweeping views over the north of the Haute-Vienne, the Charente and the Dordogne. Between wooded slopes and thickets of chestnut trees, conifers and bushes, numerous springs dot the landscape. A car park is available just a few metres away, and the Nordic walking trail makes for an enjoyable stroll through the heart of the forest. 🌳

6. The botanical trail

Dournazac ~ 1.6 km - 1h approximately - Easy

The Dournazac botanical trail is an easy, family-friendly walking loop in the Parc Naturel Périgord Limousin. It starts in the Rue de la Poste, runs alongside the Reille, a charming little stream that winds its way through the village, reaches large clearings, which are particularly flowery in spring 🪻, crosses the forest among remarkable trees, and then returns to the village centre.

It was created by amateur botanists and associations with the aim of promoting local flora. Slate signs all along the trail will help you learn more about the plants you come across. 🌷

Between ponds and pond,

7. Tour of Lac Saint-Fortunat

at Flavignac ~ 1.5km - 1h approximately - Easy

Fancy a pleasant stroll by the water? Then head to Flavignac for a relaxing walk along the little path around Lac Saint-Fortunat.

When the weather’s fine, take advantage of the beach 🏖️ to cool off and the many facilities on offer: children’s play area, petanque and volleyball courts, fitness trail, etc.

And if you’re not satisfied with just walking around the lake, you can also continue your walk on the fountains and ponds circuit, which passes through Lac Saint-Fortunat, extending your walk by 7 km! 🚶‍♂️

A break from animals and sport

8. Fallow deer park and tour of the Ronlard pond

Les Cars ~ 2 km - 2h approximately - Easy

🫎 Fa llow deer at Les Cars? Yes, yes, you read that right!

Located just a few metres from the market town and close to the Hameau de Gîtes des Ribières, the fallow deer park occupies a communal plot of around 13 hectares. Around fifty fallow deer roam freely in the fenced-in park. A 1km path runs alongside the park, allowing visitors to admire and familiarise themselves with these animals. 👨‍👩‍👧

A little further up, take advantage of the coolness of the Ronlard pond for a refreshing stroll or a gourmet break at the picnic tables. It also takes just a kilometre to walk around it. 👣

9. The music trail

Pageas ~ 1.4 km - 1h approximately - Easy

Let yourself be guided along the Sentier musical de Pageas, where every step reveals a note of nature. 🎶 Created in 2005 by a music enthusiast and a tree nurseryman, this trail takes you on a journey through some fifty species of tree used in violin making 🪘 before continuing on to a charming wooded estate adorned with botanical panels. 🌹

A fun walk that’s accessible to all, ideal for a family getaway that combines the discovery of flora, birdwatching and relaxation in a natural setting. 💚
