The Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire

Located in southern Haute-Vienne, the Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire is an asphalt path open to walking, cycling, rollerblading or scootering 🍃✨

It’s THE ideal place to stroll with family or friends, in 💚 a preserved environment, in the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin. 🌿

Haven’t set foot on it yet?

We’ll take you with us to discover it! 😉

A nature bath

1st facility of its kind in Haute-Vienne and Limousin ✨🍃

The 13-kilometer Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire, located between Châlus and Oradour sur Vayres, winds its way through unspoilt countryside where rollerbladers, people with reduced mobility, hikers and cyclists can enjoy a pleasant, safe walk 🚴🏼

It links Châlus to Oradour-sur-Vayres, via Champsac and Champagnac-la-Rivière.

New for 2024!

Its history

It is built on a section of the former railroad line from Saillat-sur-Vienne to Bussière-Galant, between Châlus and Oradour, which was decommissioned on April 10, 1961.

The first part of this former railroad line is occupied by a velorail from Bussière-Galant to Châlus 🚴🏼

The second part of the former railway line, from Châlus to Oradour, is the voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire, a charming 13-kilometer walk 🍃

In Châlus, it passes over the Tardoire, from which it takes its name, a large stream that later flows into the Bonnieure and Charente rivers.

But what exactly is it?

The Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire is an autonomous communication route reserved for non-motorized travel.

Developed with integrated planning in mind, it enhances the environment and quality of life.

With sufficient width, gradient and surface conditions to guarantee safe, user-friendly use by all users of all abilities 😉 the Hauts de Tardoire is an independent road.

In this respect, the use of towpaths and disused railroads is an ideal way of developing greenways.

An invitation to travel

Hop on your bike and off you go…🚴🏼🍃

The entrance is on either side of the track, at the former SNCF railway stations of Châlus and Oradour-sur-Vayres, which have been converted to provide a warm welcome!

Indeed, the Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire is a real invitation to discover our cultural, historical and natural heritage ✨

Along the way, you’ll catch a glimpse of the Châlus-Chabrol castle, the Tardoire valley, a lovely view of Grand Puyconnieux, the hemp drying shed, the wash house…

On the nature front, audio walks have been created and are available for you to listen to. Along the way, you’ll find signs indicating the different stages. Each one has its own MP3 file. 🤗🎶

The recorded comments are updated regularly, in line with the natural evolution of the site. Over the course of the seasons, in summer, autumn and winter, 7 stages will give you a special, enlightened look at the nature and environment surrounding the Voie Verte.

It’s an invitation to curiosity!

Psst…Don’t worry, these “Nature audio guided” walks can be done on foot, by bike or inline skates 😉
