The Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire family trail near Limoges

With a packed picnic, or an afternoon snack, young and old alike will enjoy the bike ride 🚲 in the heart of Périgord-Limousin.

Pedal freely

If there’s one place in Haute-Vienne to pedal with the whole family, this is it! Relaxed vacations, the pleasure of cycling without the hassle: a shady, flat route reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. No stress for parents, freedom for children, everyone will enjoy the ride at their own pace. 😌

MOUNTAIN BIKES bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, roller bikes for budding cyclists: everything rolls thanks to an asphalt section along the entire route. With an average gradient of 1.5%, (the only flat course in the Limousin for sure!) even the youngest will be able to outrun you!

The greenway is laid out on part of the former railroad line from Saillat-sur-Vienne to Bussière-Galant, between Châlus and Oradour-sur-Vayres, which makes for an easy route.

Family outing

Let’s go for a 26 km round trip in the heart of the Limousin countryside! All that’s left to do is enjoy the little authentic charms of our region:

beautifully decorated old gatekeeper’s houses 😍
small ponds (a grey heron! 😍)
a preserved environment (A wild orchid! 😍)
views over the countryside (The Château de Châlus-Chabrol tower in the distance! 😍)
sometimes a little greeting from the little goats, the occasion for a nice break with the kids 😉

From Oradour sur Vayres to Châlus, after 13 km of greenery, enjoy a well-deserved picnic break at the former Châlus railway station: water point, toilets, sheltered picnic tables… and tourist information for discovery ideas to share.

Not doing the whole route? For optimum timing, if you have 2 hours, for example, turn back after an hour, or 45 minutes, there will always be a bench or a pleasant spot for a snack break.

Greenway leisure area

The voie verteleisure area, set up in the former Châlus train station, is open 7 days a week in July and August, from 9.30am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6.30pm. Take advantage of :

information on the history of the old railroad line
toilets and picnic tables in the shade

The shops in the village center are a 5-minute walk away. Take the opportunity to extend your stroll, enjoy a tasty pastry for a snack, or buy some good local produce on your way back for dinner 😉
