Cycling routes in Limousin

Discover our selection of cycling itineraries. For a weekend, a few days or a week, you’ll find the ideal circuit to criss-cross our Limousin roads and discover our small villages and thousand-faceted landscapes. So saddle up!
A quick of a view

1. Cycling loop Limoges Saint-Pardoux Bénévent

146km

A 146 km, 10-hour cycle touring loop. Leaving Limoges, we head for Lac de Saint- Pardoux, then Bénévent l’Abbaye in Creuse. The route winds its way to Saint-Léonard de Noblat, the town of the famous cyclist Raymond Poulidor, with its collegiate church listed by UNESCO as part of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela, before returning to Limoges, capital of the Arts of Fire.

The itinerary takes in the Limoges cycle route at Lac de Saint Pardoux and joins the V56 Véloroute Ouest Creuse, from Châtelus-le-Marcheix to Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, both listed in the national cycle routes and greenways scheme.

2. Richard Lionheart West bike loop

Châlus - Rochechouart - Limoges - Châlus

This 152km loop takes in the rolling roads of western Limousin, Haute-Vienne in 4 stages and 10 sections. You’ll cycle on the Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire and the V56 and V93 cycle routes.

The route passes through typical villages, and you’ll discover some of the castles on the Richard the Lionheart Route.

A section-by-section guide allows you to follow the loop at your own pace and to your heart’s content.

3. Saint-Jacques à Vélo

The Vézelay route

There are 4 French routes to Santiago de Compostela, the Vézelay or Lemovicensis route being one of the longest.

More and more pilgrims are embarking on this adventure by bike.

A roadmap has been produced along part of the current route of the Vézelay Way. A 422km itinerary between Vézelay (03) and Limoges (87), which takes up part of the V56 national cycle route and passes through two key sites in Haute-Vienne:

-Saint-Léonard de Noblat and its collegiate church, classified by UNESCO as part of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela

-Limoges and Saint-Etienne cathedral

4. La Vélidéale (V93)

Limoges at Vassivière- 80km

The Vélidéale, otherwise known as the V93, is a national cycle route from Limoges to Vassivière. 80 km from the Porcelain capital. On the way: the medieval town of Saint-Léonard de Noblat, its Romanesque Collegiate Church of Saint-Léonard de Noblat, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Moulin du Got paper museum, Bujaleuf (possibility of following the itinerary to Nedde), the village of Peyrat-le-Château, then the Vassivière lake. This is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Limousin, bordered by forests, with an island and numerous tourist activities.

5. La Vélidéale (V93)

Rochechouart to Limoges - 58km

La Vélidéale (V93), national cycle route from Rochechouart to Limoges. 58 km from Rochechouart. The route skirts part of the banks of the Vienne and passes through the rolling countryside of the Limousin bocage.

6. The V 56

from Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche to Limoges - 72.5km

The V 56, the national cycle route from Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche to Limoges, will introduce you to the town of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, its historic streets, its collegiate church, and its gourmet specialties: madeleine, apple and porc cul noir. The route takes you along pleasant country roads, through the communes of Saint-Hilaire-les-places and Nexon, and past the Château de Châlucet in Saint-Jean-Ligoure.

7. The V 56

Limoges to Bénévent L'Abbaye - 72.5km

The 56, national cycle route from Limoges to Bénévent-l’Abbaye. 72.5km from Limoges, capital of porcelain and its many museums and shops. You’ll cycle along pleasant country roads through the town of Saint-Léonard de Noblat.

Discover the collegiate church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, museums and the local specialty, marzipan. This itinerary takes you into the Creuse region.

8. The local children's loop

A 100km cycling itinerary for families and friends

With family, friends or solo, this hundred-kilometer itinerary allows you to discover the Regional Nature Park in 3 to 6 days by bike, through the Perigord valleys, the Limousin bocage and the chestnut forests. Close proximity to public transport (train, bus) and greenways means you can customize your itinerary to suit your taste.
