The Mont Gargan
A majestic site overlooking the Haute-Vienne region
Culminating at 731 meters, the Mont Gargan offers exceptional panoramic views over the Millevaches plateau, the Monédières massif and as far as the Auvergne volcanoes.
Walk along the avenue of hundred-year-old beech trees and enjoy the splendid view around the remains of the chapel, amid heather moors and peat bogs. Breathe in the spirit of the Resistance at this emblematic site of commitment against the Nazi occupiers. The wind winding through the stones still seems to whisper the “Chant des Partisans”.
ARE YOU A LITTLE OR BIG WALKER?
To discover this majestic monument, you can choose between the 2.2 km discovery circuit for an hour’s walk… or a 4 hours and 45 minutes hike with a complete 19 km tour of the Mont Gargan. Younger visitors can try their hand at the geocaching game “La bataille du Mont Gargan” with the Terra Aventura app.

MORE THAN 1,900 SPECIES LISTED!
Can you spot the airborne cotton grass, the elusive otter, the fluttering arctic damselfly, the colorful checkerboard of the great burnet, or the noisy black woodpecker?

If you want to chirp in the heart of nature, the Pouge pond is the place to be! Located in the Périgord-Limousin regional nature park, this 32-hectare lake is a paradise for birds and birdwatchers alike. An observatory will enable you to better observe and get to know the feathered inhabitants of this area: purple and grey herons, wintering teal, great egrets…
