A natural and historical site
Culminating at 731m on the south-eastern edge of the Haute-Vienne region, the Mont Gargan offers visitors its natural, cultural, and historical treasures: heather moors, peat bogs, an avenue of centuries-old beech trees and 19th-century religious relics can all be seen along a discovery trail. Highlights include the ruins of the Notre-Dame de Bon Secours chapel, the devotional fountain, and the memorial stone commemorating acts of the Resistance.
Mont Gargan is classified as a national monument and site of natural heritage. It is also a site of scenic interest within the Millevaches Regional Natural Park in Limousin.
An emblematic site of resistance against the Nazi occupiers, the wind that winds through the stones still whispers the “Chant des Partisans”.
