Do you enjoy swimming in rivers and the soothing tranquillity of lakes?

Well, this article will guide you through our top 10 must-visit spots for a dip in Haute-Vienne! 🤗💦

Both rejuvenating and peaceful, they also offer the chance to enjoy a wide range of water sports. 🍃

At a glance

1. Lac de Vassivière

One of the most beautiful lakes in the Limousin

These three lifeguard-patrolled beaches offer different atmospheres for taking a dip and enjoying a spot of relaxation. The beaches are lifeguard-patrolled seven days a week from 2 July to 28 August, from 1.30 pm to 7 pm. ⛱️

Now the hardest part will be choosing:

Auphelle Beach: A large, family-friendly beach in Peyrat-le-Château, where you’ll find wooden children’s play equipment, a basketball court, a beachside restaurant, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, pedalos, boats, tiralos and mountain bikes.

Nergout Beach: This quiet, family-friendly beach in Beaumont-du-Lac has a tennis court and a pétanquecourt. You can hire canoes to explore the surrounding area. Fancy a bite to eat? There’s a pizzeria nearby! Want to go fishing? A family-friendly fishing spot has been set up, much to the delight of young and old alike. Trout are plentiful in the area!

Pierrefitte Beach: This peaceful, family-friendly beach has a ‘guinguette’ – a lovely spot in the height of summer! For thrill-seekers, there’s a water-ski club nearby.

2. Lac de Saint-Pardoux

A must-have for this summer

Saint-Pardoux Lake is THE ideal place to combine water sports and relaxation! A major tourist attraction in the Haute-Vienne, this 330-hectare artificial lake is situated at the 💚 of a protected natural area.

There are three beaches to choose from:

Santrop Beach: Ideal for families, Santrop offers a wide range of fun activities in a peaceful, natural and safe environment: a swimming pool, an adventure park, canoes, pedalos, stand-up paddleboarding, a multi-sports pitch, a pétanque court, an open-air cinema, concerts, children’s entertainment, street theatre…

Chabannes Beach: Nestled in the 💚 of nature, this site is fully equipped for a wide range of outdoor activities. It’s THE must-visit spot for budding and experienced sports enthusiasts alike. On the programme: sailing, mountain biking, catamaransailing, electric boats… Butthat’s not all! On the shaded beach, you’ll find a multi-sports ground and plenty of games for children. Do ask for details – sporting events are regularly organised here, such as triathlons and bike & run races!

Fréaudour Beach: Nestled in the 💚 of unspoilt, wild countryside, this peninsula offers moments of relaxation and thrills through water skiing and the water ski lift. The club, open from June to October, will delight you with its wide range of water sports: baby skiing, towable tubes… For treasure hunt enthusiasts, a Terra Aventura adventure awaits the adventurer within you. Set off in search of the Poï’z “Zéidon” on the“Lake Crocodile”trail.

3. Lake Saint-Hélène

In the land of trees and water!

Head to the beach at Lake Sainte-Hélène, 70 ha of unspoilt, peaceful countryside. 🌿

Children’s play areas, a multi-sports pitch, a shaded beach, a zip line, pétanque courts, volleyball, geocaching and signposted trails (for mountain biking, walking and horse riding) are sure to delight young and old alike. This developed lake offers a range of activities such as canoeing and kayaking, water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding… You can hire all the equipment you need directly at the campsite.

Supervised swimming from 1 July to 31 August (except Wednesdays) from 1.30 pm to 7 pm.

For anglers: several fishing jetties have been set up and a family fishing trail has been created. Across the whole lake, you can fish for carp, bleak, roach, tench, bream, pike…

Don’t wait any longer – grab your swimsuit, flip-flops and towel 💦

Meuzac

4. La Roche Lake

A wonderful place to enjoy a whole host of activities

Perfect for summer, this lake offers supervised swimming from 1 July to 31 August, Tuesday to Sunday from 2 pm to 7 pm. You can enjoy a wide range of water sports: kayaking, pedalos, stand-up paddleboarding… There is also a children’s play area near the beach, featuring a multi-activity play frame, a mini-golf course, tennis courts, a boules court and a multi-sports ground.

The lakeside path has been developed for walking and fishing.

If you’re driving a motorhome, don’t worry – there’s a free parking area waiting for you!

Also not to be missed is the latest addition to Meuzac: The Beach Ski Academy at Lac de Forgeneuve, Meuzac’s second lake, nationally recognised for water skiing. We offer water skiing (recreational and competitive), wakeboarding, tubing, baby ski (Baby Ski involves water skiing towed by a boat. It’s suitable for children aged two and a half to three years), paddleboard hire and electric bike hire. Open from 1 June to 31 October.

On site, you’ll find two fine sandy beaches, pedalos, tennis courts, fishing facilities and a refreshment bar where you can enjoy a bite to eat!

5. Sussac Lake

On the edge of the Regional Nature Park of Millevaches

This peaceful 4-hectare lake, just 200 metres from the village of Sussac and surrounded by nature and greenery, welcomes you!

Lifeguards are on duty from 12 July to 21 August, from 2.00 pm to 7.30 pm (except on Mondays). As for activities, here’s what’s on offer: pedalos, children’s games, pétanque, football, volleyball courts, mini-golf, basketball… You’ll also find places to eat, including a chalet and a snack bar…

For fishing enthusiasts, fishing is permitted; you simply need to purchase a day fishing licence.

For walkers, signposted trails offer the chance to explore the surrounding woods.

Our top tip: the spot you absolutely mustn’t miss is just a stone’s throw from the lake – the Mont Gargan, the highest point at 731 metres, awaits you. This spot offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Millevaches plateau and the Monédières massif.

6. Châteauneuf-la-Forêt Lake

In the heart of a woodland setting

In the Limousin, in the heart of the Pays des Monts et Barrages, just a stone’s throw from Lake Vassivière, Châteauneuf-la-Forêt welcomes you with its 12-hectare lake, ideal for swimming and fishing, set at the foot of a 2,500-hectare woodland.

By the lake, with its children’s playground, water games, table tennis tables and a volleyball court on the edge of the forest, you’re bound to find the perfect activity for your family. For the more active among you, there’s also a mountain bike centre and numerous hiking trails.

All these activities are sure to work up an appetite, aren’t they? Don’t worry – there’s a restaurant nearby!

For fishing enthusiasts, fishing is permitted during the open season.

Nearby, campsites and holiday villages are on hand if you’d like to extend your stay.

7. Saint-Mathieu Lake

The idyllic charm of a little corner of the countryside

At the very tip of the south-western headland, in the heart of the lush Haute-Vienne countryside, come and discover the charm of this rural setting and the tranquillity of the lake’s shores. Set within a 22-hectare site surrounding a 14-hectare lake, this holiday resort invites you on a journey of discovery.

Every season has its own charm – come and enjoy the many activities on offer at the site: walking, a fitness trail, fishing, mini-golf, children’s play areas, pétanque and volleyball courts, tiralo, pedalos, canoeing and kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding… These activities are available during the summer season from 1 July to 31 August.

Swimming is supervised from Tuesday to Friday from 1.30 pm to 7 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12.45 pm to 7.15 pm. You can enjoy a meal on site at the Cabanon du Lac or the Grange du Lac.

If you’d like to explore the surrounding area, there are over 130 km of signposted trails to choose from. Starting from Lake Saint Mathieu, there are six trails ranging from 13 to 45 km.

Our top tip:

For the more active among you, set off to explore the landscape o Limousin, via the“Boucle du Parc”, in a pleasant and peaceful setting.

8. Videix Lake

A little corner of paradise

10 km from Rochechouart, behind the Lavaud dam, discover the perfect spot for swimming and relaxing. Nestled in the heart of the countryside, La Chassagne beach is tucked away in a lush green setting, offering peace and tranquillity across 12 hectares.

Its banks and fine sandy beaches are perfect for walking, fishing and swimming, as well as for water sports such as sailing, canoeing, rowing, pedalos and fishing. Play equipment for children, a beach volleyball court, a basketball court and a picnic area have also been provided. Swimming is permitted and supervised from July to August every day except Tuesdays, from 1.30 pm to 7.00 pm, and until 7.30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

All these activities work up an appetite, don’t they? On sunny days, you can enjoy a meal whilst overlooking this magnificent fine-sand beach. Incredible, isn’t it? 👀

Fancy a break in the shade? Head to the shaded park to enjoy the sound of horses’ hooves as they pass by. Psst… it’s normal – the Lacs riding centre takes its horses for a stroll around the area every day.

If you fancy staying for a few days and exploring the Haut-Viennois countryside, you’ve come to the right place: with 16 holiday cottages nearby, this lake is the ideal spot to recharge your batteries.

Saint Germain-les-Belles

9. Montreal Lake

A haven of peace that’s very popular with tourists

Montreal’s 4-hectare lake offers a lovely spot to relax, situated around 400 metres from the centre of Saint-Germain-les-Belles.

Come and have fun on the volleyball court, pétanque pitch and tennis court… for younger visitors, there are children’s play areas, and for the more adventurous, hop on a pedalo to explore the surroundings. An inflatable play structure is also available during the summer months. Fishing is permitted here.

Swimming is permitted and supervised every day except Mondays from 1 July to 31 August, from 12.30 pm to 7 pm. For a bite to eat, head to the RestOlac restaurant.

Our tip: do pop off for a stroll around the lake and cool off under the trees, which provide lovely shade in summer.

To make the most of your stay, a 3-star campsite overlooking the lake is open all year round.

Bussière-Galant

10. Les Ribières Lake

Idleness, relaxation and a change of scenery

Welcome to the Bussière-Galant lake – come and enjoy a relaxing break, the sunshine and the beach atthe Espace Hermeline.

Swimming is available and supervised every day from July to August, from 12.30 pm to 7 pm, except on Mondays. There are plenty of activities around the lake to delight young and old alike, and we’re sure that, from this list, you’re bound to find an activity that will bring you great joy!

On offer: atoddler’s play area, a volleyball court, table tennis tables, introductory kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding sessions, blowpipe shooting, archery, tennis lessons, mini golf, a Vélorail trail, a miniature train and a pétanque court.

For nature lovers, come and try your hand at orienteering on various levels and along different routes. A Terra Aventura adventure also awaits you, where you can uncover the legends of the Dronne.

For sports enthusiasts, there are numerous hiking trails – also suitable for mountain biking – and a mega zip line over the lake for a real thrill. Adrenaline and panoramic views guaranteed!!

This area also features several picnic tables, barbecues, a snack bar and a refreshment stand.
