Winding its way through the peaceful meadows of the Limousin, the river alternates between narrow wooded areas and flatter, more open configurations, offering hollow banks as well as deep spots. 2nd category rivers east of LimogesBorn on the plateau of Millevaches, the Taurion travels 125 km between Creuse and Haute-Vienne before joining the Vienne downstream of Limoges.
Its waters, which are sometimes calm and sometimes fast, feed dams that are popular with carp anglers… and are home to an interesting population of salmonids! 😀
It’s in the village of Saint Priest Taurion that we invite you to put down your clogs and enjoy the 2.9km leisure course. Easy to access for novice anglers, it boasts two rainbow trout releases. The perfect way to introduce your kids to fishing! 👨👩👧👦
4. La Couze
1st category fish river, downstream of the Saint Pardoux lakeA tributary of the Saint Pardoux lake, the Couze rises in the Monts d’Ambazac at an altitude of 600 metres. 🧭
This is one of the most beautiful rivers in the department and one of the best spots to meet dame fario. As well as great catches, you’re guaranteed to recharge your batteries with its arms winding through meadows, trees and rocks. The river is also dotted with wooden footbridges, stone bridges, torrents and mills. 😍
🪧 [PRACTICAL INFO] What are the rules for trout fishing in Haute-Vienne? No more than 6 trout may be caught per day and per angler. Catch and release is compulsory for all fario trout under 23 cm but there is no minimum size for rainbow trout. 🎣
