Slender and cunning, the brown trout hides in the fast-flowing, oxygen-rich waters of the rivers of the Limousin. A symbol of the Vienne region, it is also found in the Combade, the Couze and the Briance. 🌊
Fishing for it is demanding and requires precision and discretion, particularly when using a toc rig or fly fishing. A real challenge for enthusiasts! 🎣
Recognisable by its iridescent pink stripe, the rainbow trout is a jewel of the Haute-Vienne’s rivers, offering fishing sessions full of surprises. 🌈
As it has been stocked, it is less wary than the brown trout and can be caught using fly fishing, toc fishing or colourful lures. Its fight, as spectacular as its appearance, delights anglers of all levels. 💚
Fancy introducing your children to trout fishing? Head to the Domaine du Moulin Authier, an ideal spot for beginners (equipment provided and plenty of bites). 🧑🧒🧒

Common Grayling
|
A native species of brown trout is found in the fast-flowing, oxygen-rich waters of the Vienne, as well as its tributaries, the Maulde and the Taurion. 🌊
Amidst the ballet of the rapids at the ‘ Limousin ’, the common grayling moves with grace and discretion. This rare salmonid with silvery sheen is tempted by the most delicate flies… much to the delight of patient anglers. 🎣
Its elegant fight, like a dance on the water, is a rare moment to be savoured to the full. 💫
Silent yet powerful, the carp lurks in the depths of the lakes of the Limousin. Its bite is often subtle, but its spectacular fight rewards patient and meticulous anglers. A passionate pursuit to be enjoyed by day… or by night! 🌜
The Haute-Vienne offers plenty of opportunities to track down this king of the cyprinids: private ponds, public waters and reservoir lakes, with a wide choice of spots for night carp fishing. 🐟

Its silvery scales glisten in the sunshine on the Limousin… Among the most common whitefish in the Haute-Vienne, the roach holds a special place, alongside its other cyprinid cousins: rudd, bream, barbel, spined loach, chub and tench. 🐟
Easy to recognise thanks to its silvery flanks and orange eyes, this small cyprinid is a favourite with anglers. It offers accessible and rewarding fishing for everyone, even beginners. 👍
You’ll find it, in particular, at Lake Uzurat, just a stone’s throw from Limoges city center, set in 8 hectares of natural surroundings. 🌿
Recognisable by its duck-billed jaw and sharp teeth, the pike reigns supreme in the waters of the Haute-Vienne. 🐟
Where can you find it? Head for the two large lakes at Saint Pardoux and Vassivière, the Category 2 stretch of the Vienne, or the Rénier carnadrome – a real paradise for anglers seeking an adrenaline rush! ⚡
You’ll spot this predator in calm areas, among aquatic vegetation or along the banks, where it lies in wait for its prey. 🎯

Pêcher le black-bass en Limousin
|
The black bass, a wary predator, is found in the lakes and slow-flowing rivers of the Haute-Vienne. Recognisable by its wide mouth, it can be caught using surface lures (poppers, stickbaits) or subsurface lures. 🎣
Its powerful strikes and spectacular leaps make the black bass a feared and admired opponent. Our tip: go fishing early in the morning! ✨
Our favourite spots for a memorable encounter with the ‘green devil’: Lake Uzurat, the Peyrat-le-Château reservoir and Lake Sainte-Hélène. 🌊
Recognisable by its elegant vertical stripes and spiny dorsal fin, the common perch is a common sight in the lakes and rivers of Haute-Vienne. It can be caught using coarse fishing techniques, lures (spoons, soft lures) or small live bait. 🎣
Hidden amongst the aquatic vegetation, the perch offers, in Limousin, fishing sessions full of suspense and satisfaction. Both beautiful and feisty, this predatory fish is accessible to everyone! 🩵
Not to mention that its firm, white flesh makes it a highly prized fish in the kitchen, whether fried or served as fillets. 😋

Fishing for Catfish in the Lakes and Rivers of Limousin
|
Legendary and mysterious, the wels catfish haunts the depths of the great lakes as well as the River Vienne and its tributaries. A true freshwater giant, it can grow to impressive sizes. ⛵
Fishing for it, often at night, is an adventure in its own right, where every bite could reveal this colossus. 🌙
Our two favourite spots for tracking down this fascinating fish are the Lac de Vassivière and Lake Saint Pardoux. 🎣
Whether colourful or inconspicuous, exotic species have found a home in the waters of the Limousin. Introduced accidentally, they are disrupting the balance of aquatic ecosystems. 🐠
Catch them, but whatever you do, don’t release them: 🦐
Please note: crayfish fishing is easy and great fun for children. It’s a great way to introduce them to fishing whilst helping to preserve ecosystems! 🌍
