A remarkable hydroelectric heritage!
The Vassivière dam, located on the Maulde river, supplies water to the Mazet underground hydroelectric plant at Peyrat-le-Château. In addition to producing electricity for 40,000 people a year (the equivalent of the town of Brive), this site helps to maintain the low-water level of the Vienne river and, thanks to its lake, is a major tourist attraction in the heart of the Limousin region.
