Description
Over the centuries, the medieval bridge at Noblat has seen pilgrims, merchants and travellers pass through its gates. Built of stone around 1270, it replaces an ancient ford and wooden bridge, testifying to the strategic importance of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat as a major stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela. Its pointed arches and almond-shaped eaves, typical of the Limousin region, testify to the ingenuity of the builders of yesteryear. Now closed to cars, it invites you to take a slow stroll through history and the soothing scenery of the Vienne River. A few steps away, the 18th-century "pont neuf" and the 19th-century railway viaduct complete this architectural fresco, where each era has left its mark. A timeless stopover for those seeking the authenticity of old roads.
