The site of the former Marcognac kaolin quarries was classified as an Industrial Archaeology Historic Monument in 2002. It is the only quarry in France where buildings dating back to the 19th century (dwellings, dryers, forge, stables, bread oven, etc.) still stand, bearing witness to an activity that lasted 200 years.
