Description
The hamlet of Salesse traces its origins back to the 15th century, and today retains a remarkable rural heritage inherited from the 17th and 18th centuries. A former farming estate in the upper Mazelle valley, it belonged mainly to the Durand family, an influential line of Limoges iron merchants. In 1740, the site included a manor house and three tenant farms organized as "bloc à terre" farms, still visible today. Livestock, crops and farm life were the lifeblood of this estate, run by tenant farmers and day laborers.
