This 13th-century goldsmith's and silversmith's piece comes from Grandmont Abbey, whose treasure was dispersed to the surrounding communes in 1790. It is a double cross in gilded silver, with filigree, gemstones and notches. The double crosspiece testifies to its oriental origin, but the presence of filigree does not prove its Byzantine origin. On this 40cm cross, an engraved stone depicts a horseman fighting two lions. He is holding a bow in his right hand and a short sword in his left. The stone must have been brought from the East during the Crusades and entrusted to the Limousin silversmith who adorned the cross. The stones, two of which are engraved and of Sassanid (Persian) origin, date from the 6th and 7th centuries. The cross was listed as a Monument Historique in 1907. It has been in the Gorre church since 1966.
