The city's religious origins date back to the 6th century. Aredius, a Merovingian priest and dignitary, transformed an important Gallo-Roman villa into a monastery. On his death, the growing fame and cult of the saint led to the construction of a building to house his tomb. In the second half of the 12th century and until the end of the 13th century, canons built a collegiate church on the site of the 12th-century Romanesque church, of which only the present bell tower-porch remains.
Among the furnishings: a silver chief reliquary of Arédius, a copper Eucharistic dove, a 13th-century gilded and enamelled copper shrine of Sainte Germaine?
