The Compagnons Museum is hosting the exhibition “George Sand and the Compagnonnage,” organized in collaboration with the George Sand and La Chêtre Museumto mark the 150th anniversary of the writer’s death. The exhibition explores a little-known aspect of her work: her interest in social issues, the working class, and the ideals of fraternity. It highlights the connections between George Sand, her carpenter partner Agricol Perdiguier—known as “Avignonnais la Vertu”—and the philosopher Pierre Leroux. Through literature, civic engagement, and labor history, this journey reveals a profoundly modern philosophy, grounded in freedom, education, the transmission of knowledge, the dignity of labor, and solidarity.
