10 good reasons to come in summer

A summer in Haute-Vienne for a real holiday rhythm, that’s what we propose. Here, nature sets the pace!

So let go and let us guide you 🤗

The simple and authentic things are often the best! So, under the summer sun, we go into slow mode and cultivate the art of living, quite simply. ☀️

Here are 10 good reasons to spend your summer here. We’re sure you’ll find many more, so don’t forget to share 😉

1. Swimming and waterside fun

Put your feet up

Imagine how happy the kids will be when you tell them, “Today it’s shorts and swimsuits, off for a day of swimming at the lake!” 💦

Read a book in the shade of the beech trees or simply enjoy a siesta after your picnic, listening to the lapping of the water… Take a dip in the freshwater or go fishing on the opposite bank, enjoy an accrobranche adventure with the kids before savouring a delicious ice cream, try a giant zip-line over the water with friends…

Can you see yourself there already? Sailing, water-skiing, basketball courts, beach volleyball, tennis, hiking trails and mountain biking in the heart of green landscapes… that will also be your playgrounds!

The lakes and ponds of the Haute-Vienne are just some of the ways you can enjoy the summer in complete simplicity, with a single watchword: fun 😋

2. Vibrate to the sound of a festival

1001 notes in your summer

Experience an intense summer with a festival of pure moments to share:

  • The Festival du Haut Limousin: an event that combines musical discovery and heritage. The different styles of music (classical, jazz, world music) magnify the special places where the concerts are held (Halle aux grains in Dorat, Ferme de Villefavard, Château de Sannat…): an original festival, we tell you!
  • Les Bandafolie’s in Bessines: the place to be for a taste of the South-West 😉 Lots of French and international bandas, sharing the love of party, music and conviviality.
  • The 1001 Notes Festival: for classical music fans and connoisseurs alike, this festival offers a full, mouth-watering program. Featuring many of the artists who have made the festival famous, such as Jean-François Zygel…
  • Festival Multi-pistes (Circus, Music and Visual Arts): There is no circus like the Sirque in Nexon. Don’t look for the traditional lions and clowns at this annual festival. What you will find is emotion, laughter and poetry.
  • Festival du Mont Gargan: a showcase for one of Haute-Vienne’s most beautiful historic sites. Performances by folk groups, numerous events, local producers’ market, gala evening… And don’t forget to enjoy the view from the summit.
  • Festival Urbaka: Limoges’ annual street art festival in June. Immerse yourself in the Urbaka spirit and let yourself be carried away by the artists who reinvent the places of the porcelain capital: squares, streets, squares, lawns, fountains and more.

3. Take a tuk tuk ride

Discovering Limoges

A day out in Limoges is a must in summer to discover the capital of the arts of fire, enjoy the terraces in the heart of the old quarters, go shopping or take a stroll along the banks of the Vienne river…

What could be more unusual than a Thai Tuk Tuk, as you make your way through the narrow streets, discovering the monuments and secret places of Limoges?!

Upon reservation, Lionel will pick you up from your vehicle and explain the history of the city. After the ride, the Tuk Tuk drops you off wherever you like in the city center: shopping, restaurants, sightseeing… Enjoy the long days of summer 😉

4. Local delights at the farmer's market

Can I borrow your Opinel knife?

This summer, we’ll be taking advantage of the market in the evenings too, and eating there too! A change of pace and atmosphere: relaxation, conviviality and, above all, good food 😋

Take a seat around a table and sample local specialities in many of Haute-Vienne’s villages throughout the summer season. Evening farmers’ markets and local producers’ markets are the perfect opportunity to eat locally and meet farmers, market gardeners and other food producers face-to-face!

Don’t forget your cutlery! But if you didn’t remember to bring your corkscrew, this will be the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation with your tablemates 😉

5. Sleeping in a zome

"Aux Insolites des Feuillardiers" unusual B&B

Another good reason to come to Haute-Vienne in summer: to sleep in nature!
In a zome for example, and no that’s not a typo, and it’s really a Z… like Zen Home 🤗

At Les Feuillardiers insolites, you’re in a green setting sheltered by a round timber-frame structure, a zome that is. How original is that?

Imagine falling asleep to the sound of crickets chirping. The gentle whispers of the Boubon forest waking up, the deer or squirrel passing by – what a charming welcome to breakfast time on the terrace!

An ideal place to recharge your batteries or meditate, take the time to reconnect with nature while enjoying the cosy, eco-friendly atmosphere of a zome. You’ll be pampered by your hosts, with discreet breakfast delivery for a gentle wake-up, and the option of a packed lunch. In the heart of the forest, it’s the perfect place for a stroll, with a hiking trail on your doorstep.

Other unusual accommodations await you throughout the destination, and one thing’s for sure, you’ll love them 🤩👇🏼

6. Paddling to meet the kingfisher

On the Vienne river

Choose your boat and discover the natural, little-visited landscapes of the Vienne!

The Aixe-sur-Vienne and Saint-Victurnien water sports centers welcome you for a half-day or a full day to discover the Vienne valley.

Free or accompanied descents, initiation… Being in the heart of the scenery is often the best way to appreciate it. Summer is the ideal season to enjoy a course with friends.

The best? Descents at sunrise or sunset: the best moments of summer in its most beautiful light.

Unusual and sporty, this type of outing is supervised, so you can enjoy the moment in peace. In any case, it’s along the water that you’ll discover the pretty bridges, the mills and the wealth of local wildlife in a different (and cooler!) way.

Come on, let’s take bets: will you spot the kingfisher before it takes off in stealth mode? 😉

7. Mountain biking along the shores of Lake Vassivière

Full of sensations

A land of nature sports, what could be better than a summer in the Limousin for mountain biking fun?🚴🏼

Head for Vassivière for a tour of the lake in the Monts et Barrages region.

26 km of shoreline, splendid panoramas, and a route with a variety of passages and landscapes: jagged shores, woods, peaks, wooden footbridges, dykes, stretches of the lake… The many facets of this original circuit will have you pedaling like a pro: a real sporting adventure!

8. Gone fishing

Are they biting?

Trout fishing in the Tardoire river, carp fishing at Lac de Ste Hélène in Bujaleuf, sharing Lucie’s joy at catching her first roach…

Fishing is a leisure activity that combines relaxation and patience.

Never fished before? 🎣

Come to Haute-Vienne this summer! It’s a land of fishing for young and old, beginners, amateurs and enthusiasts alike.

The fishing resorts offer courses for all levels and activities with experienced guides, so you won’t go home empty-handed! They also lend you everything you need to enjoy your hobby in the best possible conditions.

If you’re an avid angler, you’ll find all the information and equipment you need: fishing lodgings, fishing huts, boat rentals and tackle supplies.

9. Take the high road to Mont Gargan

Between history and legends

Culminating at 731m on the south-eastern edge of the Haute-Vienne, the Mont Gargan will surprise you with its exceptional panorama and its wealth of natural, cultural and historical treasures.

Heather moors, peat bogs, a path with hundred-year-old beech trees and 19th-century religious relics can all be seen along a discovery trail: the remains of the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel, the devotional fountain and the memorial stone commemorating acts of the Resistance during World War II.

The Mont Gargan has been classified as a national natural monument and site. It is also a site of landscape interest in the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches en Limousin. Yes, you’ll see cows, in the land of a thousand springs 😋

In this emblematic site of commitment against the Nazi occupiers, the wind that snakes between the stones still whispers the “Chant des Partisans”, the song of the French Resistance. The site’s moving atmosphere will also amaze you with its beauty at sunset.

10. Uniqua" back-to-school style

Classy with the Limousin style

Feel good in your sneakers this autumn!

To prolong the well-being and comfort of your stay in Haute-Vienne, come home with Uniqua sneakers on your feet. Classy, aren’t they?

Customizable, they’re part of the dress-code of the proud Limousin, (like a rooster, of course 😉 ) and of all those who like a unique look.

Treat yourself with an authentic souvenir that’s 100% Limousin, ecological and committed.

It’s not just sneaker addicts who can return from vacation with a stylish look. Our designers express their talents in many other equally fashionable fields, including luxury 👉🏼 The Limousin haute couture
