From 22 to 28 August 2026, the 31st Paroles de Conteurs Intercultural Festival

invites you to Lac de Vassivière for a week in which every word will become an invitation to dream differently…

A major event in the world of storytelling

Stories for young and old alike, set against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Vassivière. A rich and varied programme for everyone, whether you’re a story lover or simply curious…

The festival not only showcases a wide range of performances but also offers training through workshops run by the artists taking part in the festival.

The aim of Paroles de Conteurs is to foster open dialogue across cultures, economic and social backgrounds, and age groups, through the spoken word.

Why is the Storytelling Festival a must-see?

Established in 1995, when Lake Vassivière was drained, it celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025
It is a hub for storytelling, sharing and camaraderie – a place full of life and humanity!
It is a community-led and socially conscious festival: staging performances, providing storytelling training to a diverse audience, supporting creative work, and sharing experiences with an intergenerational audience from different cultures and economic and social backgrounds.
It is a passion for words; it is a moment to pause and open oneself up to the imagination and the fantastical.
‘Paroles de Conteurs’ embodies the values of solidarity, fraternity and equal opportunities, in a world we do not want to see become closed off.
It is a multifaceted event: days punctuated by anticipated, impromptu, original and co-produced events; shows for all; activities; and moments of relaxation… Alongside the ‘Parci-Parlà’ outreach programme, the ‘P’tites Z’oreilles’ family shows, the serialised storytelling series, the famous open-mic sessions, the unmissable storytelling siestas, and the traditional evening performances… over eighty events throughout the week!
