Frairie des Petits Ventres

La Frairie des Petits Ventres is THE event not to be missed.

It has been held every year on the 3rd Friday in October since 1973, in the Boucherie district of Limoges.

We look forward to seeing you in the streets of Limoges on October 18, 2025!

If you don’t know anything about this festival, don’t worry, we’ll tell you all about it! 🤗

The principle is simple: a festival that celebrates gluttony, tripe and boudin in conviviality, friendship and the smell of fried onions 😉

An institution in its own right

Every year, more than 40,000 people come together for a day in this beautiful, typical district, which has rediscovered its origins of yesteryear, to celebrate in a warm, festive and welcoming spirit 🎉

Nearly forty butchers, tripe-makers and restaurateurs await your visit, offering 100% Limousin local produce to tantalize your taste buds.

On the program? andouilles, andouillettes, boudins noirs, boudins blancs, kidneys, tripe, stuffed lambs’ bellies, pigs’ noses and calves’ heads…😋

GOOD TO KNOW

This year, this unmissable local fête will take place on Friday, October 18, 2025!

📍Rendez-vous rue de la Boucherie, place Saint-Aurélien and place de la Barreyrrette

An opportunity for you to discover one of Limoges’ prettiest streets ✨

A historic event

The Frarie des petits ventres, created in 1973 by the Association du Vieux Limoges, commemorates the once-powerful butchers’ guild of Limoges, founded in 930!

The inauguration by the mayor takes place every year at 6 p.m. Do you know why?

Well, at the same time, the statue of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié (Our Lady of Pity), also known as Notre-Dame-des-Petits-Ventres (Our Lady of Small Bellies), is carried in procession, a reminder of the tradition of the butchers’ ladies of the rue de la Boucherie, who, in the 19th century, celebrated the Virgin under this name.

Throughout the evening, folkloric events enliven this culinary feast.

Your taste buds will thank you

The stands are overflowing with hundreds of gourmets eager to indulge.

But for a taste of pure Limoges tradition, you absolutely must try the famous amourettes or animelles. These are sheep testicles served with parsley. We understand why you might not be tempted! But strangely enough, tested and approved by the team, well…IT’S EXCELLENT!

And don’t miss the Girot, a traditional preparation offered only during this event!

For dessert, don’t forget to take home a slice of our delicious Limousin clafoutis.

So, see you next year? 🤭

OUR LITTLE TIP

To visit in the area:

  • Les Halles, with a frieze of 328 porcelain tiles representing the products sold on its exterior walls.
  • The large trompe l’œil fresco evoking the past of Place de la Motte
  • The Chapelle Saint Aurélien and its Baroque decor
  • The traditional butcher’s shop.

This multi-storey building recalls the life of the butchers: they slaughtered livestock on the premises, cooked and sold meat on the first floor, lived on the upper floors and dried sheep and pig skins in the louvered attics.

When you leave, Limoges’ typical alleyways will no longer hold any secrets for you! 🤗
