A city
full of history
On June 10, 1944, the population of the Limousin village of Oradour-sur-Glane was massacred by a troop of around 200 SS waffen. The men were separated from the women and children and executed simultaneously in several enclosed areas of the town. The women and children were locked in the church and massacred by gas, grenades and other explosives, before being machine-gunned. The church was then set on fire, and the looted village burned to the ground, reduced in a matter of hours to a field of ruins.
