3 days to discover the main sights on this route!

Day 1

Limoges to Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche - 46 km

Step 1: Limoges, capital of porcelain

The road trip begins in Limoges, capital of porcelain. Discover the Evêché district, Saint-Etienne cathedral and its gardens overlooking the Vienne river.

Stage 2: Solignac and its abbey church

Solignac is a stopover on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. Its domed abbey church is unique in Limousin. Discover the town and the medieval bridge over the Briance.

For your lunch break on the banks of the Briance:

🍽️: restaurant Le Quatre, Place de la Briance – 87110 Solignac

Stage 3: The medieval fortress of Châlucet in Saint-Jean Ligoure

There’s nothing like an after-dinner digestive stroll. The fortress of Châlucet sits on a rocky promontory, and believe us, it’s well worth the effort! Once you’ve reached the top, you’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Ligoure forest. In season, you can climb to the top of the Tour Jeanette to enjoy the panorama, or take a guided tour of the site.

To extend your visit, you can enjoy a refreshing break by the water in the Ligoure forest.

Stage 4: Saint-Yrieix la Perche, medieval city of Arédienne.

This medieval town boasts a rich architectural heritage, and if you’re not afraid of heights, the Tour du Plô offers a unique view of the medieval center.

Don’t hesitate to stroll through the shopping streets of the town center.

🛌: Hôtel de la Tour Blanche, BRIT Hôtel, 7 rue des Palloux – 87500 SAINT-YRIEIX-LA-PERCHE

🍽️: L’attanum, 64 place de la Nation – 87500 SAINT-YRIEIX-LA-PERCHE

Our gourmet stop 😋: Le Croquembouche, a patisserie and tearoom specializing in madeleines… from Saint-Yrieix of course! A delicious treat.

Le Croquembouche, 9 rue Emile Frange – 87500 SAINT-YRIEIX-LA-PERCHE

Day 2

Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche to Châlus - 66 km

Stage 1: Ségur-le-Château, France’s most beautiful village

Ségur-le-Château boasts a rich architectural heritage. Old shop fronts and house facades are brimming with historic details. In fine weather, you can take a break on the banks of the Auvézère river.

Stage 2: Château de Bonneval in Coussac-Bonneval

In the DE BONNEVAL family for many generations, this chateau will amaze you with the diversity of its style, which has evolved over the centuries and generations.

Our favorite: Take your children on a guided tour of the castle in costume, followed by a creative workshop and a snack! Play knights and princesses in a life-size setting.

And for lunch?

🍽️: Restaurant le Kaolin, 21 Av. du Onze Novembre 1918 – 87500 Coussac-Bonneval

Stage 3: the Château de Châlus-Chabrol

A symbol of this route, the château was the scene of numerous battles between the Viscounts of Limoges and the Plantagenets. In 1199, King Richard the Lionheart was mortally wounded during one of them.

Bonus: After the tour, you can enjoy the view from a terrace overlooking Châlus and the surrounding area…

🛌: Chambre d’Hôtes, Au fil du Temps

41 rue Salardine

87230 CHALUS

🍽️: Restaurant Le chemin de ronde

49 route des Chevaliers

87800 RILHAC-LASTOURS

Our suggestion :

In Châlus, head for the old railway station to enjoy a walk or bike ride on the greenway, 13km long as far as Oradour-sur-Vayres. Bikes can be hired at the Châlus station or at the Ouest Limousin tourist office in Oradour-sur-Vayres.

Day 3

Châlus to Saint-Junien - 40km

Stage 1: Château de Brie in Champagnac-la-Rivière

This flamboyant Gothic 15th-century stronghold dominates the Limousin countryside. Discover the castle’s imposing granite staircase and furnished rooms.

After your visit, discover the little world of automatons, dolls animated to music.

Stopover 2: Château de Rochechouart, musée départemental d’Art Contemporain.

The château des Vicomtes de Rochechouart overlooks the valley with its imposing stature. The bridge and dungeons are impressive, as is the inner courtyard with its twisted columns.

Today, the château houses the departmental museum of contemporary art. During your visit, you can see two rooms with 15th-century frescoes and the roof structure.

And for lunch?

🍽️: Hôtel-Restaurant Logis Le France

Place Octave Marquet

87600 ROCHECHOUART
