Quick overview

1. Chemin des Kaoliniers

Jonchère-Saint-Maurice

Take this 9.3km loop route near Limoges for a 2.5-hour jaunt that will take you past some of the Haute-Vienne’s iconic sites and must-see panoramas 👀.

Along the way, don’t miss these must-sees: the slag heaps and former kaolin quarries, witness to past industrial activity, the Pierre Branlante and its breathtaking panorama and finally the Arboretum Domanial with its remarkable trees 🌳

Finish on a high note with a visit to the extreme mountain biking site, the Mountain Bike Park, and the paragliding base, before marvelling at the Dauges peat bog national nature reserve 🌸.

Psst… This loop also offers a shorter variant of 1h30 over 5.6 km 🥾.

2. Circuit du Château de Lavauguyon

Maisonnais-sur-Tardoire

Discover this 10.6 km loop, a 2h45 hike that will plunge you into 💚 rich and fascinating history.

The Lavauguyon castle trail invites you to explore the historical heritage of this commune, nestled in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park 🌿.

Along the way, there are a number of must-see places to visit: admire the ruins of Lavauguyon castle, a poignant reminder of a tumultuous past. Observe the mill’s well and let yourself be seduced by the tranquillity of the Tardoire valley 💦.

Don’t miss the devotional fountain, the Tardoire bridge and the charming village of Texièras, once renowned for its weavers 🪡.

3. In the footsteps of Henry IV

Montrol-Sénard

Immerse yourself in the 💚 of the Monts de Blond massif with this 12.5km hike in Montrol-Sénard, a 3h15 circuit that transports you back in time!

This trail is a journey through time and nature, following in the footsteps of Henry IV. You’ll discover the hidden treasures of Montrol-Sénard and the surrounding area.

Along the way, you’ll marvel at the many views over the surrounding countryside 🍃.

You’ll pass through typical Haute-Vienne landscapes and discover small rural heritage features such as wells, wayside crosses, dry-stone walls and wash-houses.

The village of Montrol-Sénard is a not-to-be-missed stopover, with its “Nostalgie Rurale” (rural nostalgia) trail taking you back in time.

A 1? hour, 6.5 km variant is also available 🥾

4. Chemin de Sussac to Mont Gargan

Set off on a 19km hike, a 4h45 loop in the 💚 Regional Nature Park of Millevaches in Limousin.

Along the way, don’t miss Mont Gargan, a listed site that rises to 731 m and was a major site of the French Resistance. Explore its discovery trail, admire the avenue of beech trees and enjoy the spectacular panorama 👀.

The site is also renowned for its unique flora and fauna, as well as the Buisson Blanc fountain 🌸.

The market town of Sussac awaits you with its charming village and historic church, testament to the rich local heritage. Pass through bucolic countryside dotted with ponds, streams and ancient mills.

Finish your walk with a relaxing break at the Sussac lake, where you can go for a swim 💦.

5. Megaliths tour

Heavens

Discover the megaliths trail, a 13km loop through the Monts de Blond and certainly one of the most beautiful walks in Limousin 🌿.

On this 3h15 hike, you’ll be amazed by the many legendary stones that dot the area: stones in the shape of mushrooms and fish, the Roche aux Fées shelter and the mysterious Pierre à Sacrifices 👀.

Just 30 minutes from Limoges, you’ll be walking in the footsteps of our ancestors who bequeathed us menhirs and dolmens, including the proudly standing Ceinturat menhir, listed as a Historic Monument and the highest in the Haute-Vienne!

You can also admire the Bois du Rat chapel, a place steeped in history, and relax near the Brudoux and Fromental ponds 💦.

Finally, cross the majestic Cieux forest and follow the pretty sunken paths lined with low walls 🌳.

6. Montbrun path

Dournazac

Discover the sentier de Montbrun, a 16km walk in the Périgord-Limousin 🍃 Regional Nature Park.

This emblematic trail takes you up to Grand Puyconnieux, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Monts de Châlus and Monts de Blond, a site with an exceptional wealth of flora and fauna 🌸.

Admire the majestic Château de Montbrun, built in the XVᵉ century, one of the jewels of the Richard the Lionheart Route 🏰.

During this 4-hour walk, you will pass through numerous hamlets and ancient villages in the Limousin 👀.

7. Hawthorn path

Saint-Laurent-sur-Gorre

Discover the Aubépines trail, located in the 💚 Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, 30 km from Limoges. This 9km walk lasts 2hrs 15mins and takes you along the Gorre, between water and greenery 🍃.

The route reveals the charm of Feuillade castle, as well as the lock and the remains of its mill 🏰.

Along the way, you can appreciate the listed church in the market town of Saint-Laurent. Featuring an elegant Gothic bell tower topped with chestnut, a portal, modillions, a sundial, a “stone of the dead” and a Romanesque baptismal font, the church also houses 4 polychrome wooden statues dating from the 17th century 👀.

A 3-hour, 11km variant is also available taking you as far as the village of Niolet 🥾.

8. The heron and the tortoise

Saint-Martin-le-Mault

Feel like walking at nature’s pace? Follow in the footsteps of the heron and the tortoise on this attractive, easy 8km trail. 🐾

You’ll walk alongside the Etang de la Mazère, classified as a Zone Naturelle d’Intérêt Écologique, Faunistique et Floristique (ZNIEFF), renowned for its wealth of wildlife, between soaring birds and discreet sightings of the European cistude. 🐢

Shady paths, typical hamlets and rural heritage punctuate this bucolic walk, culminating in a splendid 15th-century seigniorial dovecote. 🕊️

Birdwatchers can extend the walk to the nearby Etang de Murat, equipped with an observatory and classified Natura 2000: a real paradise for observing biodiversity. 🪶
