Nordic Walking Trail = 6.2 km – approx. 2 hours – Medium Difficulty

Le Grand Puyconnieux is the perfect place to breathe in the fresh air of our beloved Haute-Vienne! 🌬️ It is the highest point in south-west Haute-Vienne (alt. 498 metres), and offers a wide, far-reaching panorama towards the north of Haute-Vienne, Charente and Dordogne. The site comprises an open, grassy summit and wooded slopes, alternating between chestnut coppice, coniferous trees and patches of shrubbery. This verdant landscape benefits from numerous springs, which originate at the summit of Le Puy. You can get there easily, as there’s a car park just a few hundred metres below. But for a slightly longer stroll, you can take the Nordic walking trail and add a few more kilometers of forest to the view.

Very popular with the Saint-Juniauds and all those who live nearby, the Corot site is located in a very steep section of the Glane river. A natural interlude just a stone’s throw from the town, it owes its name to the famous painter Camille Corot, one of the founders of the Barbizon school, who liked to come here in the 1850s to capture the subtleties of light in his canvases. To be discovered along the way: The Brice mill, a former wheat mill turned felt factory (made from sheep’s wool), the Rochebrun mill, formerly a paper mill with its large dryer, the bronze medallion set in the rock in honour of Camille Corot, the painter’s cottage where he stored his easel and equipment, sunken paths, several viewpoints, the Glane river and its rocks, etc. An easy hike accessible to all, not to be missed! 🧡
