THE LEGEND OF SAINTE GENEVIEVE
Before leaving for the Second Crusade, the lord of Château de Rochain entrusted his wife Geneviève and son to his steward. At the end of the 1st year, thinking that his master would not return, he took his place. Geneviève refused him, preferring to flee with her son. In the woods, mother and child fed on roots, but the child wasted away. One evening, a doe and her fawn came limping towards them, a thorn pricked in one leg. Geneviève gently removed it, and the animal lay down at her feet, allowing the child to suckle her. Seven years later, the Lord returned from the crusade to learn from the steward of the tragic disappearance of his wife and child. A few days later, he is hunting in the forest and comes across a doe that leads him to a cave where he recognizes his wife and son. Everyone returns to the château with the doe and her fawns.
