The 12th-century Tour du Plô, 20 m high, is the town's oldest civil monument. Saint-Yrieix boasts a 12th-century bible, classified as a historical monument, consisting of 376 parchment leaves adorned with magnificent illuminations. Saint Yrieix is a town where you can stroll through the typical medieval streets to discover the town?s history, or visit the Moulinassou garden for a moment of peace and quiet on the banks of the Couchou river. Saint-Yrie is the birthplace of Cul-Noir pork and Bijou madeleine. In 1768, Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche was also the site of the discovery of kaolin, an essential raw material for the manufacture of porcelain, the deposits of which have made the name Limoges famous.
