The people of Haut-Viennois nicknamed it the trami. For the most part, it ran on the roadside, using electric traction. In Compreignac, however, most of the journey was made on a tramway track. From 1908 to 1949, the four lines together (346 km of track) constituted for many years the largest electrified rail network in France. These lines were operated by the Compagnie des Chemins de fer Départementaux de la Haute-Vienne, whose No. 2 line, Limoges/Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles, included two branch lines to Rancon and Bussière Poitevine. In addition to the stations located in the towns, there were numerous intermediate stops serving the villages. La Breuilhe, on line no. 2, served the hamlets of Friaudour and Villebert. In 1912, Limoges/Compreignac (23 km) took 1h06.
