In the 19th century, Jean Henri Seyvaud, a child of Bessines who made his fortune in Paris, donated the sum needed to build a fountain, topped by a smiling Bacchus in the heart of the locality. Thanks to an ingenious system, two barrels of wine placed in the Café Trompillon opposite supplied the fountain with wine for a few hours on October 2, 1887, when it was inaugurated on Saint Leger?s Day. For a long time, the song of the water echoed around the square.
