Description
Le Caillou is one of Champagnac La Rivière's five "good fountains". The origin of the fountains is not well known, but they already existed in the early days of the evangelization of the Limousin. The relationship between devotional fountains and the Catholic religion is at the heart of the subject. During the period of Christianization and up until the 13th century, the Church constantly fought for their disappearance. Unable to do so, it decided to make them its own. A name was assigned to each one, and legends were created featuring the saint concerned, to give a Christian framework to their origins. The fountain is said to have the virtue of curing rheumatic pains, nervous diseases, childhood illnesses and livestock diseases.
