The fountain was donated and inaugurated in 1903 by Gilbert Ballet, a well-known figure in Ambazac, as a tribute to his father, Jacques-Delphin Ballet, the town?s former mayor (1848-1852 and 1860-1870). Gilbert Ballet was a physician renowned for his work in neurology. Born in Ambazac, he practiced at the Salpêtrière Hospital, where he worked with the famous neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot.
