Description

%C0 Located near the Nexon train station, this memorial site traces the history of the Nexon internment camp, which operated from 1940 to 1944. Interpretive panels describe the context of the internment in Haute-Vienne, how the camp operated, and the fates of those interned—including members of the Resistance, refugees, Jews, Roma, and political dissidents— as well as the deportations and the journeys of several families. A commemorative stele honors the role this site played in the history of World War II. Open to the public, this memorial site invites visitors to better understand the events that shaped the region and to keep alive the memory of the victims of repression and deportation.
