This 11th-century baptistery is a remnant of the former church. Originally, it stood beside the road, half-buried (the underside is not carved) and leaning against the old church (as it represents the ancestor of the font). Nantiat's first church was built on Place de la Mothe around 900 AD. At the beginning of the 19th century, judged too small for the population, it was desacralized and dismantled to make way for the construction of the new one, and masons probably used its materials to build some of the neighborhood's houses. Nothing visible remains.
