The Texonnieras racecourse, just outside Limoges, is one of the oldest in France. Created in 1821 at the instigation of the director of the Haras de Pompadour, it features a 2,000 m grass track for galloping, a 1,300 m sand track for trotting, and 19th-century covered grandstands. As early as 1808, horse meetings were organized in the Limousin region, marking the beginning of a rich tradition in Couzeix, where many prestigious stables were established. A stallion depot, established by order of Napoleon I, housed Arabian horses and Tuscan stallions. Renovated in the 1970s, the racecourse is now managed by the Société Sportive Hippodrome Limoges-Texonnieras and offers several events and three major races each year.
