CASTLE LIFE

Château de Bonneval

The village was built around a Gallo-Roman villa, and from the 7th to the 13th century was the site of an important monetary workshop. As a crossing point between Limoges and Ségur Le Château, Coussac played a strategic role and became a key battleground in the Franco-English conflict. Its imposing medieval castle has watched over the village of Coussac Bonneval for centuries, and offers a view of the beautiful Limousin countryside, in the south of the Haute-Vienne, close to the Corrèze region.

A family story

Flanked by four large round towers and surrounded by moats, this magnificent fortress was restored in the 14th and 18th centuries. It has belonged to the Bonneval family since 1055.
Discover the inner courtyard (Renaissance colonnaded gallery); salons and dining room with Louis XIII – XVI furniture and magnificent Aubusson and Flanders tapestries. Visit the rooms of Henri de Navarre.
King Henri IV, who spent a night at Bonneval, and of the illustrious “Pacha De Bonneval”, one of the most fascinating characters on the premises.

Guided tours in French, English and Dutch are organized during the summer months. More than 10 rooms are open to the public, an exceptional place in Limousin.
