The Destination d'Excellence brand

Qualité Tourisme brand becomes Destination d’excellence

The Destination d’Excellence brand promotes regions committed to sustainable, innovative tourism. It guarantees unique experiences, a quality welcome and respectful management of local resources, to appeal to visitors in search of authenticity and meaning. Little by little, Qualité Tourisme will be replaced by Destination d’excellence. As of May 1, 2024, professionals with the “Qualité Tourisme” label can, if they wish, transfer to the new “Destination d’excellence” scheme (they will only have to be assessed on the eco-responsibility pillar). This new qualification focuses on eco-responsibility and accessibility for the disabled.

    Label eligibility criteria

To qualify for the label, candidates must meet specific requirements:

    – Compliance with regulations in force in their sector of activity.

    – Official classification in accordance with the French Tourism Code, where applicable.

    – A minimum score of 85% on the “Quality” pillar, including the mandatory criteria of accessibility and customer focus.

    – At least 60% performance on the eco-responsibility pillar for first-time certification, and 80% for renewals.

    Assessment process

The assessment is carried out by an independent body, and includes a mystery shopper visit to analyze services and facilities. A detailed report is then submitted to the applicant, with recommendations for improving weak points. The final decision is made by Atout France, within two months, which may grant the label, express reservations or reject the application.
