Jean Baptiste Camille Corot

Corot site

In the picturesque Glane valley, where the tumultuous waters of the river meander between the rocks, many artists have been bewitched by the magic of this exceptional landscape.

Among them, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot stands out. According to his own notes, he found an inexhaustible source of inspiration along the banks of the Glane, where nature seemed to clothe itself in eternal beauty.

Between 1852 and 1861, Corot returned regularly during the summers to capture the splendor of these places in his works.

Today, a bronze portrait of Corot has adorned a granite block since 1904, testifying to his unbreakable bond with this land.

The Chalet Corot, which once housed his studio, was faithfully reconstructed in 2009, offering visitors the chance to plunge into the artist’s creative intimacy. This historic replica is a vibrant tribute to the importance of the Glane Valley in the work and life of one of the greatest masters of 19th-century landscape painting.
