What is a B&B?

The term gîte is the common name for the technical term “meublé de tourisme”. It is also commonly referred to as “location saisonnière”, “location de tourisme”, “maison de vacances”, etc.

Meublés de tourisme” are furnished villas, apartments, houses or studios for the exclusive use of the tenant, offered for rent to a visiting clientele who do not elect domicile there and who stay there for a day, week or month (article L. 324-1-1 of the French Tourism Code). They do not include a reception area or lobby, or shared services and facilities.
