A new cycle routefor summer 2024

The Velideale: explained for tourism professionals

A new cycle route for cycling enthusiasts! 🚲

From July 2024, this target for sports enthusiasts will be able to criss-cross 2 regions and 6 départements, including Haute-Vienne.

Formerly known as the V93, this 683 km cycle route stretches from Saint-Nazaire to Lac de Vassivière or vice versa.

The world of La Vélidéale, the positive cycle route!

A new cycle route is born, and its vocation is beautiful. From the Lac de Vassivière to the Port of Saint-Nazaire, or vice versa, its personality is resolutely optimistic, committed and plural.

By turns coastal, urban, bucolic, wild, riverine, hilly, steep, village-like, it traces its route over more than 600 km, with a free spirit, aware that bicycle tourism today represents the affirmation of an “alternative model”.

A form of leisure and vacation – micro or grand adventure. An itinerary that’s mindful of the environment, attentive to the fragility of biodiversity, and open to local encounters – those that make life more beautiful.

So yes, we want it to be ideal, because we have an ideal. Our ideal is to showcase, appreciate and enjoy our territories, but not just any old way. With moderation, with gentleness, with passion, but above all with respect.

For us, that’s what a “positive cycling” itinerary is all about, a program of sustainable development and environmental education, all while pedaling, in challenge mode or at a leisurely pace.

638 km from Limousin to the Atlantic Ocean

2 regions crossed: Nouvelle-Aquitaine Pays de la Loire

6 departments : Creuse Haute-Vienne Charente Deux-Sèvres Vendée Loire-Atlantique

An eco-sustainable itinerary committed to the living world

Its biodiversity, the route’s compass, is exceptional (plant and animal species, wet and dry environments, remarkable ecosystems, unique biotopes, natural habitats…). La Vélidéale invites all its future followers to choose it for its committed dimension, which creates a special affinity and resonates with current social issues.

A committed cycle route

There’s a road that winds for over 600 kilometers through the timeless France we all love. An incredible succession of ecosystems, each more essential than the last. A veloroute of freedom, where you can enter and leave at any time, like a formidable star-shaped cycle path, where anything is possible. The Vélidéale takes you from the Lac de Vassivière to the port of Saint-Nazaire, an incredible adventure at the heart of biodiversity.

A cycle route that gives you a taste for travel

– A taste for adventure: adventure is conducive to numerous micro-adventures in uncharted territories.

– A taste for nature: a journey through ecosystems to awaken the senses.

– A taste for others: an itinerary dedicated to meeting new people.

– A taste for freedom: the exhilarating sensation of regaining control of your own time and pace.

> A bicycle route that's a friend and a player in transitions

Riding La Vélidéale allows you to enjoy the pleasures of a transformative experience. This cycle route embodies a new generation of tourism, inclusive and allied to transitions (ecological, food, energy, mobility…). Biodiversity is its raison d’être. Emblematic plant and animal species and their preserved natural habitats can be seen all along the route.

> A cycle route of possibilities

La Vélidéale lets you enjoy everything without giving up anything during your stay. It promises experiences and pleasures largely integrated into nature. Cross marshes, immerse yourself in the forest, breathe in the iodine of the ocean, test your calves on the gravel, picnic by the river, stroll through the narrow streets of historic villages, take a refreshing break in a lake. La Vélidéale is all about freedom and choice, depending on the atmosphere of each segment.

A cycle route connected to 10 other cycle routes

The Vélidéale crosses the Haute-Vienne region from Rochechouart to Lac de Vassivière, passing through Limoges, Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat and numerous communes in the département.

This new cycle route is also connected to the V56, the Richard Coeur de Lion route, of which the voie verte is a part, and numerous long-distance footpaths (GR).

As a result, visitors to the Vélidéale will be able to take in other cycle routes, as well as cycle only part of the route by looping around the V56.
