AN OFFER ACCESSIBLE TO ALL
Every year, the Pays de Nexon – Monts de Châlus tourist office works to develop nature sports in its area of competence: hiking trails, mountain biking, cyclo-tourism loops. In order to offer new outdoor sports activities in 2021, we have decided to work on the creation of permanent trail routes. This project is part of the “Uni’VertTrail” label awarded by the French Athletics Federation.
The aim of this label is to enhance the quality of permanent trail systems, which have to meet a number of criteria, in particular: specific signposting, a varied level of difficulty to make them accessible to as many people as possible, a number of circuits greater than 3 to ensure diversity of supply, and nationally harmonized levels of difficulty, enabling runners to take circuits that match their physical abilities, regardless of where they practice.
Finally, once the routes have been marked out, they will be referenced on Loopi, a free application that makes it easy to find the roads and paths best suited to your mode of travel.
In an effort to harmonize Uni’vert trail signage as much as possible, the specifications propose a set of signs to be respected.
The aim of the project is to complement the existing range of outdoor sports and leisure activities in the Communauté de Communes. After a network of hiking and cycling trails, the development of trail circuits seemed to be a coherent opening towards other sporting activities. In the end, 19 routes will be offered at 5 gateways, covering more than 160 km of trails. Ranging in length from 3.6 km to 30 km, the trails have been designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. One of the shortest trails has been equipped with reflective markers for semi-night-time use.
Thanks to possible links between the Ouest Limousin Communautés de Communes, already holders of the Uni’Vert Trail label, and Pays de Saint Yrieix with the agreements established on Ladignac le long, trail running could become a structuring and complementary offer on the scale of the Châtaigneraie Limousine.
Individuals, clubs and events will also be promoted using appropriate communication tools, in print (signposting, topo-guides and thematic topo-fiches) or digital format (Loopi application, website).
This operation received financial support from the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development as part of the Leader program for the Châtaigneraie Limousine region.
