A TASTE FOR ENCOUNTERSIN RILHAC-LASTOURS

Meeting with Catherine and Wolfgang, at Gîte de l’Étang de Villeneuve

Originally from Limoges, Catherine lived there until she was 18. So it’s a fine connoisseur of the porcelain city that we meet today. After many trips abroad, notably to Spain, England and Germany, she has developed a real appetite for meeting new people and sharing customs.

Discovering the area

In 2009, Catherine and her husband returned to Haute-Vienne and decided to settle in Rilhac-Lastours to find a peaceful, green setting. They were looking for a place where they could welcome travellers from all walks of life and spend a quiet retreat. Fearing boredom, it was in 2015 that they both decided to convert an old building in the Villeneuve area into a genuine family gîte. It’s an ambitious project, which will have enabled them to promote the work of local craftsmen. Since then, the aim of this place has been to create links, share knowledge and enjoy meeting new people. Qualified as a “meublé de tourisme 3 étoiles” and “3 clés”, Catherine confides to us that she is entirely satisfied to be working alongside “Clévacances” and “Rives de Rêve”. According to her, these platforms are a real guarantee of quality for travelers. They also ensure that cleanliness is beyond reproach. The gîte sleeps 2 adults and 2 children, and features a large living room with open kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom and mezzanine twin bedroom. Plus, its shaded terrace and large barbecue.

A fisherman’s paradise

Come here to relax, unwind and enjoy the pleasures of fishing on the 5.5-hectare pond. It’s a paradise of extraordinary greenery. You can fish for carp, tench, roach, pike, etc. Here, the fish are wild and released. The pond is emptied every three years and a complete inventory is carried out, along with a check on water quality and the state of the banks. Catherine also tells us that a document in the archives mentions a first (smaller) pond in the hamlet of Villeneuve. This was the original pond, which can still be seen today when it is emptied. A small house for anglers adds to the pleasure of fishing and provides shelter in bad weather.
