1. Saint-Junien
Leather CityAs the gateway to the Périgord Limousin Nature Park, 10 minutes from Oradour-sur-Glane and 20 minutes from Limoges, the town has long been a mecca for the leather industry, particularly for gantier and megissier skills. In addition to its know-how, the town of character offers many other architectural and natural treasures.
2. Oradour-sur-Glane
Martyred village and remembrance centerOn June 10, 1944, Oradour-sur-Glane sadly went down in history. With nothing to foreshadow such violence in this country village, the Nazis heinously took the lives of 643 people. Shortly after the massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane, General De Gaulle decided that the ruins of the martyred village should be preserved. Oradour-sur-Glane came to symbolize the atrocities committed by the Nazis in France.
Over the years, the need for a space to explain the context in which the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre took place became apparent. In 1998, the Centre de la Mémoire was inaugurated.
In this museographic space, you can learn about the history of Oradour-sur-Glane and, more generally, about the troubled period of the Second World War, with the help of archive documents, films and personal accounts.

3. Rochechouart
An exceptional heritageThe picturesque, formerly fortified town of Rochechouart boasts an exceptional built heritage: medieval castle, church with its torso spire, and houses built of impactite! Rochechouart bears the scars of a giant meteorite that fell some 200 million years ago. The result of the encounter between heaven and earth, these rocks, known as impactites, have always been used for construction. They can be found in the Château/museum and throughout the Rochechouart area. Don’t leave Rochechouart without exploring the 2 must-sees: the Musée d’art contemporain de Haute-Vienne and the Espace météorite/Maison de la Réserve.
