Our group visits to Saint-Junien and Rochechouart

We welcome you all year round to visit our treasures in the company of our guides. Let us guide you into the heart of our towns and into our businesses, where there are treasures for the most curious among you to discover!

1. Guided tour of the Agnelle glove factory

The Porte Océane du Limousin is a land of many recognized skills, and invites you to open the doors of its workshops and discover the secular crafts that are still alive and well. Marvel at the finesse of leatherwork and discover how our craftsmen magnify raw materials to bring out their quintessence.

For over a thousand years, Saint-Junien has built a reputation in the leather industry, particularly in luxury glove-making. Working for some of the biggest names in haute couture, Saint-Junien’s glove makers open their doors to reveal – almost – all their secrets. Visits are possible from Monday to Friday lunchtime, except on public holidays, in August and during the Christmas vacations.

2. Guided tour of the historic center of Saint-Junien

Born of a modest hermitage erected in the 5th century by Amand and his disciple Junien, the town opens its doors to you to understand the religious and cultural influence it has had over the centuries. Stroll through its streets and discover the evidence of past centuries, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, as well as its main monument: the collegiate church, one of the largest and oldest Romanesque churches in the département.

The Saint-Junien Tourist Office also offers a self-guided tour of the town center with an audio-guide.

3. Guided tour of Saint-Junien collegiate church

The collegiate church of Saint-Junien is one of the largest and oldest Romanesque churches in the Limousin. It was the center of a vast ecclesiastical complex that has now disappeared. Built in four successive campaigns, from the 11th to the 13th century, the original layout has always been respected, making it a homogeneous church that bears the unmistakable mark of construction periods from the Romanesque to the nascent Gothic. Discover the monumental tomb of the town’s founding saint: Junien.

4. Guided tour of Rochechouart's historic center and château exteriors

Consecrated in 1061 or 1067, the Romanesque church of Saint-Sauveur was built by the monks of Charroux Abbey. At the end of the 15th century, an elegant octagonal tower was added. It is topped by a stunning 8-sided helical spire (of which there are some sixty in Europe). A guided tour of the town center reveals the rich history of our city through the architectural remains of medieval times. Discover the exterior of the château, its architecture and its history. Learn more about one of France’s oldest noble families, with close ties to the history of France.
